Default Adding 2nd yorkie to my family

Hi All, I looking for advice. I have a 1.5 year old yorkie female, very spoiled and I'm bringing home a new female yorkie puppy tomorrow. Any suggestions on the introduction and does anyone anticipate any problems with jealousy or rebel behavior from my 1.5 year old? I very excited and nervous about the initial meeting. Any feedback is appreciated!

Congratulations. I have 4 females all of varing ages from 11 years to 11 months and had no problem bringing each one in. The 2 younger ones play and bug each other but they all get along and snuggle with each other. Sometimes when I am cuddling Roxie, Pixie will get jealous and come for a snuggle but it all works out. I just watched when I brought a new one home to see how they interacted and crated the new one when I wasn't home, until she was trained and I knew they would all be fine together. You will be so happy you got the 2nd one!!! They really do love having canine companionship.

Well congratulation on your new daughter. I'm sure the two will be best of buds in no time. Yorkies do seem to love the company of another dog. Some take a few days to get over the idea this new fir-ball that's been getting too much attention, isn't leaving.........so it's time to get to know it better type of thing. Be sure to post lots of pictures!!!

Hi I'm sure everything will go fine. I just got my 2nd this past Monday and Ivy is 5 years old. So far it's even better than I had hope I know how you are feeling but I have heard about all of the YT member that have 2 or MORE so I jumped in too. Ivy just loves him (he is so new that I don't have a name yet) and they sleep in the same crate, didn't make a sound all night Good luck and let us see some photos!!

Congrats! What fun you'll have with 2 now!

A few things that have always worked for me. If possible have them meet for the first time away from home. That way there's no "territory" issues. Don't carry the puppy up to meet the older dog, it's best that they walk up to each other. If any aggression is displayed by the older dog turn and hold her so that the puppy can smell her bum. Or vise-versa. Again, it's best if it's all done on the floor, not being held in your arms. As far as giving treats and affection, I find it best to alternate, I don't always give the treat first to the same dog. Sometimes the older dog gets it first sometimes the new one. And I always find time to do something just with the older dog. Walks by ourselves, running an errand, cuddle time in a different room away from the new dog.

Boo is Gracie's favorite chew toy. But there are times when he just wants to sit and cuddle with me. Gracie, of course, simply wants to chew and play. If Boo has come and asked for cuddle time, I will move Gracie back and tell her no. It only takes a time or two and she will either go find something else to play with, sit and wait for Boo to get up or come and cuddle on the other side of me so that she can have some quiet time too.

Just remember - you are the boss, stay calm, speak with an firm voice, don't allow either to bully the other. Babies sometimes don't know when enough is enough. Let them work out the little squabbles on their own, just watch that it doesn't escalate into a full blown fight. Trust me, you'll know the difference. Oh, and post pictures as soon as you can!!!

Default It's all Great!

It's been 4 1/2 days since I brought Leah home and she is amazing! My 1.5 year yorkie Lola just loves her. The first few hours were tuff but she learned quick that Leah is a baby, 12 weeks, and she needs to be gentle. Their relationship keeps getting more amazing each day. I'm so happy I did this. My only challange right now is pee pee pad training Leah but we will get there! I will post phots's this weekend

I got 5 yorkies... never had any issues introducing a new dog... But I always put the new dogs in a crate for the first 15 min so th other dogs can smell it first..

Congratulation on your new dog!!
