| I would recommend keeping the crate in a smaller enclosed room....like the bathroom or the kitchen and keeping the crate door open so that he can go in and out of it and know that it is a safe place that belongs to him. He really shouldn't be in a crate for any longer then 4 hours at a time. Maybe use an x-pen with the crate to give him more space and a pee pad so that he learns it is ok to go potty on a pad. He will also need toys and chew sticks of some sort. But yes, definitely leave him fresh water and food when you are gone for 6 hours. Good luck!

| If you don't have an xpen. I have gated the bathroom and put a bed and pad, food, water and some toys. That way they have the choice of moving around and able to all he wants.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think water should be available at all times. Usually they don't need food all the time, unless they are puppies. I agree with the others, it's nice if you can put the crate in a bathroom so that they can move around a little.
