| Check on a breeder How do I check on a breeder to make sure she is honest? We need to send a deposit to save our puppy but before I do I want to make sure i'm not being taken advantage of. |

| Have you looked in the breeder review section on YT to see if there are any mentions? You can also create a thread that includes the breeder's name and website, if there is one, and see what others say. A lot of people here are really good at picking up on red flags in websites.

| Check to see if she is on a suspension list with the registry she breeds under. Call the registry and inquire if any complaints that have been filed against the breeder. Check to see if she is USDA liscensed. (A big no-no.) Post info here and get opinions...on the sales agreement, website, etc. |

| Also, google her name, website, phone number, e-mail address. Do it one at a time to get the best results. You'd be surprised what pops up sometimes.

| Depends...which registry are we talking about? I would definately call ANY regsitry, regardless. To ask about suspensions AND complaints. If you go to the breeder section here on YT, there is a link at the top with a list of AKC suspended breeders only. (I'm assuming it's still an up to date list?) |

| Commercial breeding facilities, aka, puppy mills that supply pet stores, brokers etc are always USDA licensed. That's why it is not in the best interest of theGovt to want to shut them down, too many revenue dollars are lost. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Saw your breeder's name on your other thread. Susan Boyd is a USDA listed breeder....you can compare the address information.

| Isn't there a link somewhere to the requirements for USDA kennels? I thought I had one book marked. I'm being really lazy...I don't want to get up and walk to the cabinet to dig through info to get it. |
