I have read the whole thread, dont know why you would assume I didnt. I wrote to you in response to what you said, in other words what you were discussing.

May be by "free" they are implying, that they are willing to pay the adoption fee. Considering the actual price of a yorkie. adoption fee of 200. to 300. is free. If you give them their bed, and their grooming suplys, that right there, has close to 200. value.

That just drives me crazy! Everywhere I look, someone is begging for free yorkies. Craigslist, Kijiji, Hoobly, Forums, other sites.

Why do people feel entitled to a free dog, when everyone else has to pay for one? Why do they want one if they can not afford the initial price?

I just read one tonight about how a lady had a yorkie, and it got stolen from her yard, (must not have been watching it) and now she promised her kids she could get them another one, but could not afford one. She then went on to post, that it must be a baby, get no bigger than 4 pounds, and be a female, BUT that she would "accept" one that gets 5 pounds Accept, are you kidding me??? You are begging people who you don't know, for a very expensive pet none the less, for FREE, and then you have the nerve to want to be specific?

Sorry but this drives me crazy! Rant over

Well I was one person that needed a lower priced yorkie and I believe I give my two yorkies the greatest life with lots of love, toys, food, water, shelter, training, medical care, etc. Their needs go way before my own. It's just that when we got our two, I would have rather spent our money on getting their veterinary care rather than paying $1500+ for a dog. We spent $750 for Chip and Smokey was a rescue that was free. I'm a little offended by the fact that some people have said that those that can't afford the expensive price tag, shouldn't have a yorkie at all.

I have never seen this happening, but, i do not think these babies should just be given away like some prize. It takes a responsible ,caring person to own a puppy and asking for a handout is not responsible IMHO

that was very well said. Just because someone doesn't want to pay /or have 2 grand shouldn't mean they shouldn't be able to get a nice little yorkie....and good for you getting Smokey - I think my next dog will be a rescue too

Ashley, I've had/have 3 yorkies. One was a rescue, one was rehomed to me free of charge and we bought Abby from a breeder.

*IF* I ever get another one, it will be a rescue. Abby is one of the great loves of my life, but she's no more special than Daisy or Peanut.

I was not being harsh, I was being honest. And because I only have 10 posts, well, really, what does that mean?

I have been in rescue over 10 years, I am currently fostering 5 pets. I have 15 rescued animals, and it really ticks me off when people BEG for a yorkie( OR ANY other animal at that) for free, and then to have the nerve to be PICKY, that bothers me. If you cant afford one, then find a rescue one, OR pick a different breed to love. Plenty of choices at AC.

Plus, if it is true, that they have seen cheap/free yorkies, they should not be asking for a baby, 4 pounds or under... They should be on Petfinder or at the local pound, instead of making up (or not) some sad story about why they just MUST have a yorkie...

There are thousands of small dogs, some yorkies, some just look like yorkies, that they could save from Animal Control. In their price range. I thank that is wonderful!

They NEED it! Gotta have it! BUT for FREE ONLY! And it MUST be tiny...

Free animals, most of the time-not all-but most, end up in shelters. Once that first vet bill comes up, then it gets dumped. Or once the children who HAD to have one loses interest. And then I must spend my HARD earned money to take care of them, vet them, love them, feed them. And I have seen worse. The animal gets stolen, gets hit by a car, or thrown in the back yard to live...

So this is not a Drama thread, it is just a thread, to see others opinions on the subject and to discuss their thoughts, and shared experiences.. Which is exactly WHAT a forum is for I thought

Default Asking for a free yorkie is an insult to good breeders...

We work so hard, spend so much time and of course:TOO MUCH MONEY on having the healthiest and when they go in labor is such a stress... nights of missed sleep and so tired... all of that because we are crazy about the breed and we love them to death and at the end it is all very worthy !!! As long as i am not asked for a free puppy !!!!!!
It is a very huge insult. No other way of explaining it. Why someone may think that you can spend your time and money to give them a free dog?????? Besides, if they do not pay for it , it is like these pitbull mixes we see on craiglist or at the shelters by the "piles" every day... they do not pay for it, once they are done with and tired of it they just "dump " it on the shelters.... or worse , if the dog needs to go to the vets they don't even bother, getting another "free one" is cheaper.
People that ask for a free puppy just want another "thing" so when they are tired of it they can get "rid" of it and did not cost them nothing !!!!
I could go on and on and on about this....
It gets me so aggravated when people ask for a bargain puppy ... nonetheless for a free one...
Oh yeah.... i have seen ads that are specific: " a healthy tiny free one , female preferably, not spayed .... for free or very cheap..."
Came on.....

oooo.... I have my own story about this! As some of you may know, I am considering rehoming my june bug. I mentioned this to a few (like maybe 5) of my grooming customers. Every day I have been getting TONS of phone calls from people saying "I heard you have a free yorkie". People I don't even know! And of course they ALL want to know "how big is she?? Is she registered??" Then when I tell them that I am not sure if I am going to rehome her yet and that if I do it won't be "free" They get all mad. Like I offended them! I don't think that a small fee for a 16wk old AKC puppy is unreasonable. It would only be a fraction of what I paid for her, not too mention her shots and everything else that I have already paid for! IF i do have to rehome her, I am more concerned about it being a GOOD home than "recovering the money that I spent". Some lady had the nerve to say that to me..that if I was just trying to sell a puppy or "recover my money" that I should have just said that to begin with, that she was looking for a free dog! This is the same lady that heard about it through a friend of a friend! I told her that I was sorry she felt that way and that i wouldn't "sell" her my puppy if she offered me a million damn dollars for it. then i hung up...sorry my rant is so long...some people just tick me off!!
