OMG, this irks me to no end! When those are the first two questions I hear out of someone's mouth, my gut tells me to respond with "Too big and too expensive for you"
At that point, nothing they could say would convince me to place a dog with them. I advise them that if a 'teacup' is what they are hoping to aquire then they would have better luck trying to locate a breeder who is focused on size rather than health and breed standard dogs.

I know what you mean, when the first question out of someones mouth is "how big will he/she get?, I know they will not be getting one of my puppies. What I need to hear is " I don't care how big or small he/she gets, I will love it no matter"
I also hate it when even friends or relatives hint that I should let them have a pup for free or very low cost, gosh, that's uncomfortable

I don't agree with begging for free puppies. All they have to do is go to their local shelters and they'll probably manage to find a yorkie for about $200. It may not be their dream yorkie, but if they want a dream yorkie they'll have to be like other people and save up the money.

and as far as only being concerned about weight...that really gets to me. We were at an ice cream shop the other day with Tucker. This one woman there...was being really obnoxious anyway...but then she saw Tucker and she was like "What is he?" and I was like "A yorkie." and then she walked over and started to play with him so I got down too to hold his leash tightly and she was like "Oh it's ok." and I didn't really say anything, then she stood up and she was like "Well, they're not usually so big!" and walked away.

I can understand if one of the questions someone asks a breeder is how big they will be, because for some people that is very important, whether it's for a medical reason (not being able to lift things over 10 lbs, maybe, or they live in an apartment with a weight restriction, or they just really, really want a smaller yorkie). But I think if they obsess over how big it will be, that's a problem.

Well said! I so wanted to say this along time ago...I'm getting tired of them too. Why not just love them for whatever size they are going to be. I was told Mimi was going to be no more than 8 lbs and my girl is now up to 12 lbs and to be honest with you...I love her size. She thinks she's tiny though...wants to be held 24/7 I just can't bring myself to tell her that she doesn't fit in my pocket book

Oh Gosh! I know exactly where you are coming from. On craigslist down here theres someone begging every other day for a free yorkie. Usually for their little children. "I promised them a yorkie can someone please help me out? I dont have a lot of money. I can afford up to $50."
Also, people get so upset on CL when someone posts a rehoming fee of like $200 for a yorkie puppy. The post usually gets flags and other bitter posts spring up about stop trying to sell your dog on cl, etc. its insanse. Same with the ones who say I dont have a lot of money but I have a lot of love. Um yeah, the vet doesn't accept "love and happy feelings" as a form of payment. People truly do not understand the cost of keeping a dog. or they refuse too.
i could go on for longer lol but I better stop ranting.

I got my first yorky free. I didn't place an ad in the paper though. I didn't even know what a yorky was when I got him. He was 10 lbs with floppy ears and a very smart dog with a stubborn streek. We became best buddies. I was given the dog because this man said he was going traveling on a motorcycle and couldn't take the dog and he thought the dog liked me and I would take care of him.

Just had to tell that.

I see people get free dogs all the time. But it seems when they have something come up like vet bills they can no longer take care of them . They have problems training them or something else. These are the dogs that end up in the humane society.

I think if someone atleast charges a rehoming fee that atleast shows that someone may be willing to take care of a dog if they are willing to pay for it.

When I got my new Lucy I did ask about weight. The reason was that I didn't want a very small one. I have always heard that they have more health problems. It was also important to me that mine didn't come from a puppy mill.

I think there is a difference in your situation and the one that seems to be a common complaint here...it's quite different to ask/demand/whine for a free/cheap/discounted Yorkie than to come about one in the manner in which you described.

It's like everyone wants a Cheap/Free Show Quality Teacup Yorkie w/ Champion Bloodlines and Breeding Rights. Already housetrained, free of health issues, and fluent in at least 3 major languages.

That just drives me crazy! Everywhere I look, someone is begging for free yorkies. Craigslist, Kijiji, Hoobly, Forums, other sites.

Why do people feel entitled to a free dog, when everyone else has to pay for one? Why do they want one if they can not afford the initial price?

I just read one tonight about how a lady had a yorkie, and it got stolen from her yard, (must not have been watching it) and now she promised her kids she could get them another one, but could not afford one. She then went on to post, that it must be a baby, get no bigger than 4 pounds, and be a female, BUT that she would "accept" one that gets 5 pounds Accept, are you kidding me??? You are begging people who you don't know, for a very expensive pet none the less, for FREE, and then you have the nerve to want to be specific?

Sorry but this drives me crazy! Rant over

I couldn't agree even more....also when someone emails you on your ad that has everything in it including the simple thing...like the price and then they want to know all about the animal in their email including the price. I just would like to reply wanting to say "don't you know how to read"...

My response to those who want a "free" yorkie. There is no such thing as a free dog. Even if one pays a minimal fee at a rescue, there is money involved in the care and feeding of a Yorkie. These little buggers are "high maintenance"!! So, my advice to anyone who thinks they should get a free Yorkie because they can't afford to buy one, then they can't afford to take care of one either.

Yep when I was searching for a yorkie puppy or adult ( i just wanted a furry companion) to be adopted I saw a lot of free puppy ads or people wanting a yorkie or maltese for a very low adoption fee. I was like wow are you serious because all of the things they wanted rather it was weight wise or whatever. I do understand when people have a limit to how much they want to spend on their new fur baby, but not asking hey give me a free yorkie that will get no bigger than 4lbs, that is ludicrous

I agree 100%! We all have things in life that we want and either can't afford or don't want to spend the money on. I'd love a CLS class Mercedes but I can't imagine a dealer lowering the price or giving me one for free because "I just have to have one!" If I want it bad enough I'm just going to have to fork out the money, otherwise there are a lot of other really nice cars out there to pick from.

i posted about this a few months ago on here about ads id seen on kijiji... it is too much. those ads are out of control, as are the sob stories. it is really upsetting to me.. if they want one so bad they really should save up some money... i cant help but think if they cant afford to buy one they cant afford to pay for ones care either
