| Strange behavior since the move We have had our Yorkie, Brutus for one year. He will be 8 years old in November and he was my sister in law's dog before we had him. He was already used to us, so he made the transition just fine. Now a year later we have moved into a home in a new state while both my husband and I attend graduate school. Brutus has since been demonstrating strange behavior. He can't seem to get to sleep at night (he sleeps in the bed with us) and he doesn't interact with us as much as he usually does. He seems to be miserable here. We live within an hours drive of our families so we visit on the weekends. He loves going back to see the family and returns to our new home miserable. What is going on? Plus Brutus had had two seizures prior to becoming our dog, after moving in with us Brutus has had three or four seizures over the past year. What is going on? Also sometimes he can't seem to jump on the bed or couch like he normally seems to be able to do with ease. Very rarely, but every once in a while he seems clumsy, like he can't walk that great for just a split second and then he is fine. What should we do? |

| First let me say welcome to YT! It does sound like he is depressed by the move. This poor guy has an awful lot happen in his life. Have you taken him to the vet to have him checked over?? I'm wondering if anything else has changed? Diet, time alone, etc? Is he spending more time alone while you're going to school? Perhaps he has slept so much during the day, that he is having trouble sleeping at night. Maybe some good hard playtime before bed would help. Or at least extra attn. I'm wondering how he is feeling - like are is teeth in need of a cleaning or are they bothering him - I might be reaching, but it does sound like it could something beyond the move. Did he have a yard to play in and now he doesn't? Or doggie friends?

| Thanks for the reply Well not much has really changed other than the move. Prior to the move both me and my husband were in undergrad school and we are home about the same now as we were then. We are taking him to the Vet this weekend just for a once over to make sure everything is okay. He hasn't been eating as much as normal since the move. Thanks for the advice. We have been playing with him as much as he will allow us since the move. Hopefully Brutus will work his way through this over time. |

| Good idea to rule out anything physical. The seizures would concern me. Could they be stressed induced? Could he be worried that ya'll are going to be leaving him at this new place? Try taking him for walks and let him see the sights and smells of his new neighborhood. I think taking him out to places and coming home as much as possible along with some extra attention will help him to realize this is now home. I don't know if there are any other YT'ers close enough to do a playdate, but that might help too. Some just don't take to change as well as others, give him some extra lovin' and time to adjust. Poor guy.

| a playdate also sounds like a good idea. There are several YTers in VA - matter of fact we will have our 2nd International YT Meetup next summer and it is being held in Alexandria. There is a sticky about it in the General forum.
