| Selective House Training? Hello, Nala is about 80% potty trained...she has a designated potty area in my apartment (she doesn't have her shots yet so I don't like taking her outside) and whenever she has to go she goes to her corner...when I take her to my mother's house however; she goes wherever she feels like it... This weekend I took her to my grandmothers house and was dreading have to pick up after her all weekend but remarkably she went potty on the wee wee pads in the bathroom with no assistance all on her own... We then brought her back to my mothers and she went all over the place again... Does this happen to anyone else? Selective potty training. The only difference between my house my mother's and my grandmothers is carpeting. My mother and I have carpets and my grandmother does not...and my mom and I have different types of carpets...I just find it weird (and quite frustrating) that in a place she has never been to, she was 100% potty trained and in my mother's she's a mess... |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It was much easier to train Joey to use a pee pad in an area with no carpet. Since your grandma's house had no carpet she found it easy to find a place to go. Your mother's house may look like your house to you, but it doesn't to her, the smells are probably entirely different, dogs are smell oriented, not sight oriented. Furthermore, if your mother has other dogs who have used the carpeting before, she would want to go wherever they went. Any source of protein will attract them to that spot, urine, feces, and food smells will attract them to that spot. For her age, your little girl is doing remarkably well.

| My mother doesn't have any pets...but she moved in a couple of years ago and maybe the previous owners had a pet...I hadn't thought of that...But the suggestions on marking her territory sound good..because she is very random in her spots... |
