No Longer a Member | Baby Food Hello Everyone, We have had Chloe about 2 1/2 months. She is the most picky dog when it comes to food. I have tried about 8 different dry dog foods and she doesn't like any of them. My question is, can yorkies eat baby food in small tiny amounts? I just read that they can eat yogurt. I have tried her on cottage cheese and she likes it some but not much. The only thing that Chloe likes to eat is cheese and she likes Merrick can dog food without any kibble mixed in. If I mix some dry kibble in with it, she walks off. Can yorkies just eat can dog food. It's to the point that she hasn't eaten for almost 2 days. I fed her some new Thanksgiving Day can dog food today and she loved it. WOW, can you believe it. No more dry food for her. I've been out a lot of money. I've request samples and either never received them, or not enough food to see if she really liked it. Please let me know. Thanks, Denise Last edited by wonderwoman41; 08-24-2008 at 07:55 PM. |

| I dont think baby food would be best since human babies and dogs have dif. needs. Dogs need more meat.. humans veggies, grains, fruit and meat. It is very hard when they are tiny.. i had the same problem with my monkey.... she didnt start eating dog food normally until she was almost 2! I wound up donating A LOT of dry food and a few cans. I dont think there is anything wrong with feeding her just canned for now. Although I think long term dry food is suggested for their teeth but it may be a little easier to find something she likes when she gets older. Chewy ate SOME canned food.. she usually got annoyed of it after a week or so but it gave her soft poopies and since she is pee pad trained that did not work for me. you could also try some raw foods... Natures Variety makes some.. we tried it but Chewy looked at me like i was crazy... "Did you forget to cook this, mom?" I would suggest stick with the canned for now... then you could try some dry food with yummies mixed in... chicken soup...a little veggies... a little meat or chicken. It has to be just enough to get her hungry and not fill her up. They get the hang of it. |

| The myth that kibble is good for their teeth is wrong! Would you expect cookies to keep your teeth clean? As long as your Yorkie has proper chew toys to develop his/her jaw and mouth muscles, as well as keep their teeth clean.. there is nothing wrong with feeding canned. Canned food is less processed, so IMO, better!

Since she's been eating dry, Ive only used the petzlife every 2 weeks or so. I also like that she has to work to chew... with the canned she just licked it and swallowed. But yeah I agee proper toys and chews are great for teeth too... | |

| Chloe can absolutely only eat canned food. In fact, many vets today recommend canned food over kibble since the quality is better. Merrick is great food and if that's what she loves, let her have it. My vet told me that as long as you give them two dental chews per week, a canned food diet is fine. |

I read lots of people using the cookie and kibble analogy, but I'm not sure where they got their support for this. Kibble is much harder than cookies and doesn't break with the finger like cookies. Hard foods have been shown to be good for the gums; by keeping the gums healthy, food doesn't go into pockets and create gingivitis, which is the major reason dogs lose teeth, not cavities. If your dog won't eat kibble try to get some other hard foods in his diet to stimulate the gums and keep them healthy. Quote:
