| Yorkie VS. German shepherd. My brother just bought a female german shepherd and she's 8 weeks old and weighs 10.25lbs. Cuddles (my yorkie) is only 3lbs and she's 18 weeks old. Anyways since he got roxxis (the german shepherd) roxxis bit cuddles 3 or 4 TIMES!!!! I get so worried when i'm at work and not home watching cuddles and my brother is with roxxis. We've had roxxis for 2 days now and cuddles since she was 9 weeks. I don't know if roxxis is just playing hard on cuddles or if its a female thing between dogs!?!?!? Will they ever get along? Oh yeah I'm stacie and i'm fairly new to yorkietalk.com but I LOVE IT! I've read posts about shampoo and what foods to feed. It's awesome! I'm stressed about roxxis biting cuddles. i dont want to come home from work and find out cuddles is gone |

| I'm sure others will have opinions on this but I think you are going to find Cuddles injured badly or dead. I don't think this is a good idea at all!! A GS puppy has no idea of their strength and hasn't been trained yet, they shouldn't be together at all!! IMO

| I agree puppys play rough and bigger pups have very very sharp teeth, I dont think its a good idea to let them play together, The Yorkie will end up hurt. |

| They should never be left alone together! The GS will need to be taught to play gentle whenever she is playing with the Yorkie. But even then they should never ever be left alone. We have a 110 pound GS and he is very gentle with Onni who is only 3 pounds, but we never ever leave them alone together, not even to go to the bathroom. Our GS would never intentionally hurt Onni but his shear size he could hurt her without intending to.

| We have a Weinaramer who is 90 lbs. He was raised with a yorkie in the home. But he was taught that the only way he could be around the yorkie was if he would lay down. Then we would take them and put it at his face. He simply loves the yorkies. We have 3 and he has always been kind and caring. However you shouldn't leave them alone togeather with out watching. It will take time to get them both to understand what they need to do. I hope it works out for you. Our big dog even lets the yorkies eat out of his bowl and never gets mad at them. He is really good natured but you don't know how your GS is going to be. You should always look out for the yorkie. Good Luck. I hope this gave you some hope with this situation.

| Thank you so much everyone for responding so fast! I feel a little bit better knowing that some big dogs can get along with little yorkies. Can female dogs that live together get along also? |

| I as as well have a German shepherd female who is 2 and a 4 month old male yorkie .However , my shepherd is older and obedience trained . Although she loves this little guy like he is her puppy , I still watch over them simply because of the major size difference . The dogs do not realize their sizes but we do as responsible owners we must care for each of them . |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I would keep your yorkie away from Roxxis when you are not home. My hubby ended up getting a German Shorthaired Pointer (who stays outside). Daisy, since day 1, has been fascinated with Gracie and is constantly pestering her, pulling her hair, nipping at her. I did not want to take any chances so I took down our doggie door to protect my babies! Bigger dogs, pups, just want to play like any other breed. Thing is, they don't realize that they can hurt the smaller dogs.

| I would not keep them together until your watching them, I have a 120lb GSD and he loves the yorkies, but I wouldn't leave them out with him when he was little unless I was there. Now after he has been train and older he isn't the problem its the yorkies

| What if the "prey drive" kicks in the GS when you are not home? I have a GS/Great Dane Mix outside, 13 yrs old, who loves my youngest 5 lb Yorkie. I NEVER leave them alone together. IMO no matter how well trained a dog is, instinct takes priority over training. After all, these are dogs, not human children no matter how much we wish they were human. Just my 2 cents. If you have to, I would crate my yorkie when you can't be home.................................

| I would always supervise we have a large mastiff and 2 yorkies & even though they have all been together for 3 years and they all get along the size difference is just too much. He loves the girls but sometimes plays a little too rough and if we were not there watching he may lay on one of them or play a little too hard. seperation during the time your gone is your best bet for a safe and happy family

| We have 3 yorkie females and they all get along. Of course one is dominate and rules. But they never get into it.

| What kind of biting are they doing? Puppies bite when playing but it's quite different from a pup biting in anger. Has the skin been broken??? I think it's fine for them to play together under close supervision but would not leave them alone together. Over time and as they get older they will develop a relationship and you will be able to tell how they interact together. BTW...as you can tell from the names, mine a both girls. When I first brought my yorkie home she only got to play with her Australian Shepard sister under close supervision. Once Gracie got a little bigger and stronger, I no longer worried about it because Izzy was so gentle and careful with Gracie. Gracie also plays with my daughters dog. He weights about 60-70 pounds but he's a big, gentle giant. They all three play great together!!!

| i wouldn't leave them alone together and i would definitely supervise their play till roxxis is older my brother has a 6 month old lab puppy, champ, that is wayyyy to jumpy hyper to play with my little 3 pound kona, but im hoping as his training comes along that we can let them play without the fear of champ accidentally sitting on kona or something |
