What a horrible morning We had a close call with Layla this morning. She comes to work with us and we leave the door open to get a breeze in the office. Layla knows she isn't allowed outside the door and is OFTEN praised for not going out the door. Today a dog walked by (no owner) and she was gone. Barking and snapping and eveyrhting... we were SO lucky this was a nice dog or she would have been dead. I'm not sure we handled it well... everyone was yelling and screaming because we were afriad the dog would get her or she would run off and follow the dog.. and i think we should have praised her when she eventually did "come" but everyone was too upset. i put her in her crate. I'm just a mess... we came so close to disaster. Does anyone have any suggeestions on how to prevent this in the future? i want her to keep coming to work and come fall/winter all the doors are closed but we have a good month left of nice weather.. please please help.

I am so sorry you had a scare this morning. Thank goodness everything worked out! Can you fit an X-pen in your office. When people come over and we ahve a lot of people waling around we put our little boy in his x-pen so he won't get stepped on etc. So far its' working out great and he loves it. He has a nice amount of space to run and play.

| I would put up a screen door, maybe a nice storm door that you could take the glass our during the summer and put it back in the winter. Thank goodness Layla is ok. Hope you'll be ok soon.

that is a super idea except the type of building we are in is all concrete--- so the door is very heavy and doens't have that extra place where you can put a screen door.. u know what i mean? and i knowthis sounds horrible but my uncle won't pay half for a door taht is just for a dog. BUT i'm going to bring up that idea maybe we can work on it for next spring. there are always TONS of flies in here and that would really help cut down on that... Thanks for the great suggestion! I have all winter to work on it

I've seen gates that look less like baby gates and more like a fancy railing that work for you. They are permanently installed and just swing open with a push on the latch. I think maybe dog.com or some other online site had them. Are you at a desk most of the day? Maybe you could keep her on his leash and tie it around your waist. Like a long flexi leash? I'm sure she would love to have to be close to you! Last edited by iuplori; 08-23-2008 at 07:45 AM. Reason: Oops! She not he!

I was thinking of the same type of gate....I will see if I can remember where I've seen them. I would like to get the same thing for my office and a screen door wouldn't go over well with my Broker.

Maybe I'm nuts but...how about a play pen? I know that years ago, we had a smaller one for our daughters for when we traveled for DH's job...anyway just a thought. Good luck and I'm so glad that Layla is safe now!
