I was not picking on Gus Gus. Just stating a fact. So are you saying that Gus Gus is standard to a yorkie because he is 75% yorkie? And that its okay for you to go outside the standard of what AKC states because he was bred from a yorkiepoo/yorkie. To my knowledge it takes 100% to at least become some sort of standard for AKC.

I think that you probably are a great breeder and just because a mix that you may be breeding doesn't have a "standard" right now doesn't mean you aren't a good breeder. HOW DO YOU PEOPLE THINK WE HAVE ALL THESE DIFFERENT BREEDS OF DOGS? Because Breeders, with a "Breeding Program" chose to mate their best dogs of different breeds together and purposely obtain a new breed. And, if the yorkipoo is perfect to you, then you should continue in your efforts to breed the best YorkiPoos ever!

Cross breeding is beneficial because you may actually be a pioneer of a totally new breed! Wouldn't that be something to be proud of! Crossing is good too because it breaks up the bloodlines even better than a sound pure bred Yorkshire Terrier breeding program . There is no way the two dogs share an ounce of dna! (***every single breed we have today came from the mix of another old breed. Remember all dogs came from one original animal The Wolf ...someone had to do some mixing
of some sort!)

there is a difference between debate and bashing..
the debate was about designer breeds.. the disagreement was about breeding small dogs and taking chances with their lives for the purpose of
breeding them..

no one is perfect.. we all make mistakes.
but we should be willing to learn.. especially with the responsibilities involved in breeding..
especially new breeders.. myself included

i guess i should learn to keep my opinions to myself

Your post has lots of misconceptions; first of all breaking up the bloodlines is not necessary good. Saying that there is no way the two dogs share an ounce of DNA, is also false, all dog breeds share over 90 percent of the same DNA the actual number may be closer to 98%, I can't remember offhand. The belief that mixing breeds makes for healthier or smarter is false. You can't predict results when you mix. If one of the dogs has an inherited disorder, it may be passed to offspring, just like with purebreds. Creating a new breed takes years and years, thousands of dogs, and is much more difficult than many realize, because at some point you have to do an awful lot of inbreeding, and this can have disastrous results. Anyone who is mixing with the thought that someday they will get breed named after them, should, in my opinion, concentrate on the idea that every dog they bring into the world finds a good home, and lives a good and healthy life. This to me should make a breeder proud. Whether or not, you agree with mixing, lets at least not cloud the issue with a lot of falsehoods, and misconceptions. Many of us strongly believe that there are many wonderful breeds out there already, and time spent should be improving these breeds and making them healthier rather than worrying about creating new ones.

One thing I do admire about you is that I truly think you're a breeder who does care what happens to the offspring you produce. However, from reading some of your posts, it seems that you have found it extremely difficult to place your mixed breed dog. This to me is where the problem lies. Not every breeder cares about finding a good home for their dogs, and will sell them to anyone, and most people just can't afford to keep all the offspring that their dogs produce, so what happens when they can't sell, and can't keep a dog, they lower their standards, and eventually start selling to people who aren't suitable pet owners. In truth, it's still easier to place a full breed than a mixed breed.

Yes I have a question...........what are your "high standards" if you do not breed to the AKC standards. What is it that you are trying to produce? The reason I ask, everyone has their reasons on what they are going for. Even if it means "teacups (8-20 lbs) or smaller 3 lbs or less, temperament, hair etc. You did state that you have "high standards". Since its not AKC then I am just wondering. Just so you know I am not for or against "designer pets". I am pretty mutual on this topic.

thank you for your kind words.. i dont deserve it..
actually i have learned a new lesson recently.. regarding gus gus..
i was confused about keeping him..
he is now 9 months old.. i was halfheartedly trying to sell him..
but after the incident.. he is going to be bonded to me forever
i am new to breeding and decided to keep one puppy..
gus was the cutest and smartest.. instant love..
but i placed all my other dogs as puppies at 3 months of age with no problems.. i could have sold more puppies easily..
it is best to sell them/ ,place them at 3 months..
do not keep a puppy unless you plan to keep it forever
we learned the hard way..
the story of gus gus is posted in the yorkie brothers and sisters section..
my yorkies did go faster and easier..
but the yorkipoo lovers are out there...
breeders need to be prepared to keep their puppies
and not sell to just anyone for sure..
with the price of gas.. people dont have the extra money
for any type of dog..... purebred or mix..and i like them both
