| my dog thinks he is not my dog, now. i tend to work late into the evening, around 9 - 10pm. i am home the majority of the day, though. we've had oliver since february and he's always slept in my room with me (where he should be, considering I'M the one who begged for him/paid for him) but out of nowhere about two months ago my grandma (who I live with) claimed that he was crying in my room while i was out and she brought him to sleep in her room. i don't believe that he was crying, he's always been fine in there by himself, he just lays down and goes to sleep. i think she probably brought him in her room with her figuring that it was more convenient to do that than to trick him into going to bed. i was fine with it until about three weeks ago, because by now she has him in the habit of sleeping in there so when i get home and take him in my room with me, he just cries and carries on for HOURS on end until it's time for him to wake up and be let out in the morning. i usually have him on my bed with me where he walks around crying until he finally goes to sleep, but he started attacking my face so i put him on the floor. here, he scratches at the door and still paces around and cries. last night, for example, i went to bed around 11pm and woke up just about every hour until i finally got fed up with it around 6 and let him out. i don't know what to do. i was thinking i could just keep him in here and let him cry and eventually he'll calm down and fall asleep, but i can't lose sleep like this every night and i feel abusive. but there's no way in hell i'm just letting him sleep in there. he's MY dog and my grandparents have already hijacked him enough (he primarily eats table food because they'd feed it to him and he quit eating his puppy food altogether despite how many times i tried to get him to eat it) and i'm afraid that when i move out and bring him with me (probably in a year or two) he's going to have some kind of breakdown thinking he's away from his parent. i am in fact the one he spends the most time with. i feed him when i'm at home, but it's difficult for me to be home at that time due to work. otherwise i'm usually home in the day and i play with him constantly. he likes me and follows me around the house, he just doesn't want to sleep in my room for some reason. to clarify, he does take naps in here. i leave my door open for him and i come in a few times a day and find him sleeping in his doggie bed. i have no idea what his aversion to sleeping here at night is. |

| I have no idea what to do about your situation, but I'm sorry that that has happened . I hope someone will come across this thread & give you some advice, because I haven't experienced something like that before.

| One of my dogs...would only sleep with my Mom when I was living with her......he wanted nothing to do with sleeping in my room..he would run to her room...however he knew I was him Mom in the end...he would only give me kisses and was always at the door to go out with me...he was fine when I moved out and took him...I also worried he would want to stay and be upset but he was right at the door waiting to go...
