| what's up with my puppy's color? I am a new yorkie owner and I'm enjoying it, but I'm a little curious. He is nine weeks old and still has alot of black and some gold on him. There's a little white on his chest but it doesn't seem that the black is turning silver yet. Is this normal? Don't get me wrong, he's adorable, I just thought that they start turning some silver at a certain age. Maybe it's just me being paranoid, but any comments would help. |

| Nine weeks old is still so tiny. Yes, it does take a bit longer for them to start changing colors....usually around 5 months or so I think but that was just with my pup. I'm sure they all vary a bit. Some pups/dogs keep their dark coats....what did your pup's mom and dad look like? Were they silver?

He's a really chunky puppy actually so I'm hoping he might lose a little weight as he gets older. So it's not abnormal if he does keep his dark coat? |

| Kaba just turned a year this last week and she still has not turned yet. She has had a little bit of color change on the top of her head but is still all black with gold accents. I know its probably not normal but color changes don't always happen like they say. I'm really hoping she stays this way..I like the black gold a lot better even if its not the standard.

| No it's not abnormal at all if they keep their dark coat. I have one silver/blue puppy and one dark/black puppy. I love that they are not the same. If you look through many of the pics on YT I'm sure you will notice many dark puppies/dogs.
