| Leaving my baby home alone I'm starting work in a week so Honey will have to be home alone for about 7 hours, besides 2 times a week where a very sweet dog walker will come and take her out for a walk. I just feel like such a bad mommy I'm so sad to think about her being all alone. What can I do to make it more "fun" for her? Of course she has her water, pee pads and plenty of toys but is there anything else I can do? Please help med feel better because right now I really feel bad. |

| I know it's hard to leave them, but she will be fine - and hey, we all have to work in order to support these little kings & queens, right! lol Maybe some music or the tv, so it won't be too quiet for her. They also have these vidoes for dogs (& cats too), that are supposed to keep them entertained for a while.

YT 1000 Club Member | I was looking through a puppy magazine the other day. They had this one toy for dogs at home during day alone. It's round and 4 balls with treats in them set in it. You set a timer so that each one will be released at different times during the day. There were other similar toys as well. I'll let you know the name of the magazine and post it here for you. You can probably see it on line. I'd leave something for your pup with your scent on it too! Good Luck! |

| I was working so many hours a day that I finally told my boss that I would have to find another job if I wasn't able to bring my furbabys with me. I am an "In home health nurse" so this request was actually possible. My boss was hesitant at first, however, the situation has worked out fine. Before this was possible I bought every talking toy I could find for "Biscuit". He was surrounded with toys that sang, barked, oinked, and laughed every time he started to play with them. I believe these toys helped, I know they made me feel a little better! He loves every one of them and now they all go with me to work!! |

| Have you thought about getting a playmate for your pup? I know it's expensive and a time commitment but I just got my 2nd pup and my 1st pup could not be happier. When I have to leave them, they have each other. Just a thought.

| I work from home but travel two/three weeks at a time every two months or so. My baby, Atticus, is home 9 hours alone while my husband is at work. I feel soo guilty and I fear creating an anxiety problem. My next trip is coming up (Sept 12-Oct 3). I recently came across the following article when looking for ideas: Tips for Leaving Your Dog Home Alone - Dog Carriers, Small Dog Accessories, Cat Supplies, Pet products and More and PetsAlley.com I ordered both the Kong toy and the Buster Cube. I think Atticus will love them. The Dog Appeasing Pheromones (DAP) products can be viewed on Amazon.com. I haven't decided on ordering one yet. Fascinating new concept. Maybe it'll help.

| Thanks to everyone who posted hints. I am having the same dilema with my 3. Going back to work after being a stay-at-hom mom/daycare provider. Feeling totally guilty about leaving the furbabies for so long.

| I know how you feel because I will soon have to face this. Tobey is now only home alone for a few hours at a time because although I work full time, my husband is in school and works in the evenings. So it's not been too bad. However, bad news is that my husband is leaving me and moving out soon. Because of all that I quit Cosmetology school for awhile (which was 3 nights a week after work from 5-9pm) but my parents are urging me to go back. I keep telling them that with Jon (my husband) not home, that means tobey would be alone everyday for like 9 hours and then 3 days of the week for like 14 hours! that's just too long, even though he is pee pad trained. It makes me really SAD but I also don't want to never finish school. It's hard balancing life and our babies sometimes, especially now that I am going to have to do it alone....

| Thank you for all your suggestions! Keep them coming! I'm starting to get used to the thought, and hopefully she will adjust well to it. Getting a second pup is not in the cards for me right now, I have my hands full with Honey! I'll look into the toys you have suggested, she doesn't have any "talking toys" now, so she'll probably enjoy those! |

| I had to go through the same dilema and currently leaving Duke home around 9 hours a day (adding 1hr for the commute to my 8hrs workday). He seems to be doing well, I used to be able to see him atleast every 3 hrs but now my commute won't allow me to see him as often. I leave the radio on for him and once I'm home - I lay down on the couch and he would kiss and jump all over me. I think it's his way of saying I miss you and how dare you left me for so long . Also, at the beginning, he would barks or tries to run out the door with me. I had to teach him to stay and would always say "Ok Duke, mommy is going to work, you stay home and be a good boy. Mommy will be back". I think this conditioned him to understands that it's ok to stay and gets him in a routine. He knows now to sit and stay as I leave and my heart still breaks every morning but it gets easier, like someone said, we have to work for them and their needs but definitely get the unconditional love in return. Oh also, I spend a lot of time with him once I get home, the cooking and dinner always wait Good luck and let us know how it goes for you

| Whenever I used to be in school... I'd leave the TV on for Lilly. I gated her into my kitchen and kept the laundry room door shut. She had her pee pad, toys, bed, water and food. I also made sure all the cords were out of her reach. Every morning before I left I'd change the TV to Animal Planet. I'm sure she'll do just fine. She'll be so excited to see you when you get home!
