Help!! Housetraining my Yorkie My Yorkie is 11 weeks old and she was already started on housetraining when I got her from the breeder 2 weeks ago. She does great somedays no accidents!! But then she will pee on the floor. I am training her for both outside and pads. Not sure what I am doing wrong I take her outside often and the only times she goes on the pads is in the middle of the night. I need some advice on what would work best for her.

Trixie was already pad trained by the breeder, when I got her. I think is normal that sometimes they miss the pad by a couple of inches.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Potty training is SOO frustrating!! I know your pain all too well! However, I think it sounds like she's doing great! She's still very young so it just takes time and patience. If she makes the pad and you catch it, praise her like CRAZY!! Don't get mad if she misses or has an accident, cuz it's not her fault. I found it was so hard to catch them having accidents but I've heard that its best if you can keep them in a enclosed space where you can always have your eye on them. Don't let them run around the whole house if you can't watch them. She'll get it. Just be patient. When they're that young, my vet said to take them out every 2 hours....its a drag but it works! Good luck!! |

I doubt if you're doing anything really wrong. Eleven weeks is still very young & it sounds like she's doing really well. Just make sure that, whenever she goes outside, you go with her so that you can see if she actually does anything or not. The minute she does, even while she's still squatting, start telling her what a good, clever dog she is. Make a huge exaggerated fuss about it, that way she really associates the praise with the actual doing. If you find puddles in the house, don't scold her. That will just upset & confuse her, just clean it up & remind yourself to watch her a bit more carefully in future for signs of her needing to go out. xx Meggie

If it makes you feel any better Wiz is 4 months old and we still have housetraining issues . I think I am doing all the right things and he does use the pee pads and outside . ..it is his bowel movements that are frustrating . As much as I watch him and have him outside , he will find away to do a fast one in the corner when my head is turned . Let's all hope it gets better . Through the night though , he has stayed clean in the kennel from the day I got him at 8 weeks . I don't even care if he goes on my deck as long as it is OUTSIDE .

It's really strenge how they go by the door. Mine does that too. I think is a good signal. Trixie is 4 months. I am very satified with her progress. They are just pupps. you cant expect them to be howse traind that fast. Think about a human toddler. It takes them up to four years to be potty train (like my daughter) I think your yorkie is doing well. Be patient.
