I think sometimes theres food and games, and they might leave to go to certain stores or restaurants that allow dogs.. i know a lot of them take place at dog parks etc

p.s. ive never been to one but ive helped plan one

People meet up at dog runs in the parks where dogs can play and run around. After that everyone goes to places that are pet friendly to socialize more If it is a very big event it might be more stuff going on, like games, stores, dinner etc

Here in Boston, it's more about the dogs than the people socializing. It's actually a bit awkward being a human at the doggie meetups. lol...Anyways, my Yorkie group meets once a month at an indoor doggie play center, mostly because in the winter you can't have a Yorkie outside very long. Us humans sit on the floor and unleash the dogs, who just play and play and play and play and play.

When it's time to go, you just grab your pup and head for the door. No awkward wave to the people who don't care to know your human name...just your Yorkie's. lol.

Fun for your dog...not so much for humans. But it makes you feel like a good owner. from what I've heard, some other meet ups are more social for the owners as well. I just haven't experienced that here in Beantown.

We're planning another meetup in Central Iowa. Last time we had treats for dogs and people - but it was so hot, I don't think the people ate. We just met at a local park - not a dog park.

We had x-pens - but no one really used them we all had our dogs on leash and the dogs were all great together. We stood/sat around and talked. We had people in their 20s to their 80s there. It was really great!

The biggest thing!! Lots of pictures!! Just search the Picture Forum and use the search option in the forum and look up "meetup" - you will be overloaded with picture threads

At the 1st International YT Meetup in KC in June we were spending the night so lots more time for fun - pj party, shopping with furbaby vendors, speakers, food, fun and loving on furbabies

Ive enjoyed the meetups I have gone 2. Being that they are from here, talking to people is no problem! Most of them you feel like you already know anyway so what more fun they you can sit back and chat with good company while the babies play.

We are having one this Saturday and there will be refreshments for furbutts and the parents plus we are having a raffle and a goodie bag!!!!

I think different groups set it up differently. We're having one this weekend and we're doing several things. It's indoor at a doggie daycare. We're bringing food and having a raffle to raise money for yorkie rescue. We're also celebrating the birthdays of some of the pups. So, we're going to be socializing and letting our yorkies have fun!

In Michigan, we have about 7-8 meet-ups a year. Mostly in the summer months.

It's just an opportunity to hang out with yorkie parents. Some of the members of our group have dog business so they bring their stuff and we get to shop. We do a "dish to pass" so there is a ton of great food...

We have a professional photographer come in and do photo shoots with the dogs.

We have a Tea Party in February, BBQ in September, Halloween Party in October, Christmas Party in December and Birthday Party in May...and then we do general meet-ups the other months.

I think we all really look forward to getting together to see new puppies, how puppies are changing as they mature and see each other.

Fun times with friends.

check the regional forums -and see who has helped plan them in GA before - or be like me, find someone else on YT to plan one with and get it set up!!

We posted on YT, but we also made fliers and hung them up in local pet supply stores and grocery stores and the newspaper ran our info several times in their calendar listing - all of this was free other than the paper for the fliers

I organize a meetup in the Denver area, Welcome to Denver Yorkies. Our charter is for playtime and socialization with dogs their own size. The meetups are a lot of fun. In the summer we meet at a grassy private school yard for free and at various doggy daycares indoor or outdoor the rest of the year for a small fee.

Mostly we just let the dogs play and we talk about Yorkies of course. I've tried different things though, like organizing groups for benefit walks (we have group T-shirts and doggie bandanas), BBQs and potlucks, and holiday parties. The Halloween costume party usually sees the biggest turnout of the year. We have over 100 members but usually have 20-35 dogs at events. I've also sponsored an intro to agility class, puppy obedience class and a pet first aid class (without dogs). I have some Yorkie-sized agility equipment I set up when we use the school yard. And currently I'm planning some obedience type games.

I do find that at the meetups I spend very little time getting to know "people" because it's so busy with dogs (I'm working on that). And most of us know the Yorkie names better than the owners. We are always welcoming new members!
