| Hello, we're New Hello, I have browsed the forum a few times, but never took the time to register until today. I have two Yorkies, one being on the very large side (20lbs), his name is Willie, and I also have a 5 month old little girl Chloe, who is about 6 lbs. I love them to pieces! I wanted to post today because I can tell how much everyone here loves their "kids" and even though I'm sure all of you take wonderful care of your little ones, I wanted to remind everyone to be very careful during these terrible heatwaves a large portion of the Country is experiencing. My best friend lost her little 7 yr old Yorkie yesterday, and is so upset with herself. He was a bit larger Yorkie and loved to play out in the yard with her other dogs, so she let him out to play yesterday morning around 7am, he had fresh water, and shade, she brought him in around 8:30 because it was really heating up, and also alot of humidity. She said he seemed fine when she put him in the bedroom, (she has a home daycare) and parts of her day gets crazy and she doesn't want her small dogs to get hurt. He was fine at that time, but when she came back a couple hours later to check on him, she found his lifeless body in his crate where he had went in. She was just devastated. The vet checked him over and after ruling out everything else, he believes he died from heat stroke. She feels so guilty, and can't believe she let him over heat. Her and I talk about people who leave dogs in cars on warm days, and we get so angry at them, and now she feels she was just as stupid. I thought I needed to tell everyone here about this sad tragedy, because it can happen so suddenly and dogs are like kids, they don't realize how hot and thirsty they are when they are busy playing and having fun. I'm sure alot of you have tiny Yorkies who don't venture out much, but I for one have the larger ones, and I do let them play outside at times. In the future I will certainly pay more attention to the temps and humidity. Sorry this is so long. I enjoy reading the forum, and looking at all of the cuties here! Thanks for having us, and I will have to read up on how to post pics, so i can introduce Willie and Chloe! Deb, Willie, Chloe |

| Welcome to YT! Can't wait to see pics of your babies. So sorry for the loss of your friends baby. Its always so hard and at times we blame ourselves but please remind her it wasn't her fault. My babies do not go out much in the heat...they are in house with the central air on at all times. I also wanted to thank you for warning everyone here...sometimes you just don't know. |

| Welcome- and thanks for reminding everyone! I had Banjo out 2 days ago at my BF's- he had water with ice in it- and was playing in the shade- but after we went in he just flopped in frount of the fan- in the central air- and just panted- and laid there! I told Kenny- we had him out to long- he has a fur coat on and he can't take it off! he did not seem that hot when were were out- but I am really going to keep his time out short- It maDE ME FEEL BAD- AND I WAS WORRIED AND WATCHED HIM CLOSE FOR AN HOUR!! Sorry for your friend's loss! I think they are just like people- some can take more heat than others!

| Welcome to YT ! I am sorry about the loss of your neighbors Yorkie. I have been feeling guilty by not letting my 5 month old puppy play outside, because of the heat. I am now glad that i had made the right choice . Considering the fact a dog's normal body temp. is 101' it would not take long for the dog who is full of energy to over due it in hot weather. It is a shame that it happened. I can't wait to see pictures of your Yorkies. 20lbs is a big Yorkie

| It's sad to welcome anyone on such sad notes. I think most of us know not to let our beloved babies get too warm, but I'm so happy you posted this for those who were not aware what a little heat can really do. Welcome to you and your two fur-babies. Hope to meet them soon. |

| Thank you all for such a nice welcome, and for the kind words to send on to my friend! All of you have such adorable babies! It is always so interesting to me to see all of the different looks from the same breed of a dog! I think that is why I love Yorkies so much because they all take on their own unique look! I promise I will make time to post some pics, and I also have to find me a good pic for my avatar! The past couple days have been hectic, but it is almost the weekend, and none too soon! Thanks again to everyone, and I will be sure to tell my friend how friendly everyone here is, and give her your invitation! She will appreciate it! Deb, Willie, and Chloe |
