Constant barking from Boobah

Hello to everyone. I just had a bad day at the doggie park today. This lady who is amongst others, has been complaining to me over the months to keep Boobah from barking. She said it drives her up a wall. Well, today I went over the wall and told her "Listen, this is a doggie park, not a people's social circle, if you want to talk and not pay attention to your dogs go to a social center where you can talk all day." And then I left.

I have tried to get boobah to stop barking but short of hitting her I dont know what to do. Ive tried collars, sprays, putting "good dog" in her water, etc. I guess I just got a troubled dog. She has been with me for a year.

Should I go to a trainer? Obedience class? I only want her to stop her incessant barking. She gets in the front of dogs' faces and just starts barking and doesnt stop.

Can somebody help me?

Rudy's a barker too. That lady should have kept her comments to herself. Good for you for saying what you did to her. Boobah was just trying to tell the lady off also, the only way she knows how!

Dogs Bark some a little more then others. Glad you told the woman what you did. If you think you may need help from a trainer I would call to see if they can help the barking.

This is a bit silly.......... but .........
I know a little about the "barking" that you are talking about. There are times when we are home, my little Shelby decides that there is something to bark about. She will run around the house and bark her head off.
The way I look at, she is trying to tell us something. So....... I pick her up and say "What do you see".. and carry her around the house trying to find out what is so exciting. Once I figure out what the big deal is (which is usually by looking out the front door ...we have full glass in the front so she can see out), I acknowledge that I see what she is barking at and say "Thanks for telling me about the lady jogger" . Once she has gotten my attention, she is happy. (which is why she was barking in the first place) This works about 90% of the time.

Well, I know she's a dog and dogs bark, but I wouldn't like it if someone's dog constantly got in my dog's face and barked. I wouldn't allow one of my dogs to do that to anyone. Yes, a trainer would be a good idea. You might put a muzzle on her so she can't get her mouth open wide. My mother had a dog that barked constantly and putting a muzzle on her stopped it. She learned not to bark and didn't have to wear it long. People talk, but you wouldn't like it if someone got in your face and shouted.

I recently read an article by Trey Stevens on how to stop excessive barking. He recommends using a squirt bottle with water in it. Everytime your dog starts to bark you squirt him right between the eyes while saying "Quiet". After a while you don't need to squirt him just say "Quiet!" He says it has worked for him. My dog is not an excessive barker but I have a friend who's dog is and she says she is going to try this method. She has a toy poodle. Good luck. The private trainer is also a good idea.

Aww.. that is so cute and sweet! I have to try that on my Chewie.

It makes sense when you think about it... they ARE just trying to tell us something aren't they? I wish i knew wut goes on in their little heads.

hhhmmmmmmmm...Well I have a problem with this now as when its a hot day I spray Pixie with water to cool her down so she's not really afraid of that anymore!
