Puppy Chewing On Pee Pads! - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Okay, I'm sure someone else has had this experience, but I can't seem to find it when I search. What can I do? I have my puppies in a big area with doggie gates until I get back from work. They have plenty of space to run around and I even have their pee pads located inside the bathroom where they normally go. I've had them for about 3 months now (they're 7 months today!) and haven't had any problems with them until one puppy decided this week to tear apart the pads! This has happened all week! I come home and he's basically made a pinata out of them! Oh, and I'm also seeing parts of the pee pads in his poop! Can anyone give me advise with how to get him to stop? Thanks!

Joey started doing this, on of a sudden, and I couldn't get him to stop. I started using washable pee-pads and I've had no more problems. I made my own, but many members here use Little Bits pee pads, and highly recommend them.

If you tape down the edges, that should eliminate or at least help out the problem.

My two started doing the same thing, so I also went and purchased the washable ones, but..............did anyone else have the problem of now........they can't seem to distinguish the difference between the pads and my carpet and rugs..........oh my! So, if it's cloth............they pee.

You do need to clean up any accidents on the carpet with an enzyme cleaner, otherwise they will return to the spot. The same would be true if you are using disposable pads. Joey actually did better with the washable ones, but it may be because he was getting older, the disposables he would just tear up even before he peed on it.

I think that I'll try the tape instead. I can't bear the thought of having to wash pee pads. I have a very sensitive nose.

We'll see how that works. I know that my boyfriend caught one of my pups chewing on it and he immediately scolded him. When I got home yesterday both pee pads weren't damaged at all. We'll see if that helped for a couple of days.

The only thing that worked for me were the pee pad trays. When I tried tape Lucky scratched it off the floor and then would try to eat the tape. I used the tray for about a month and then went to a big washable pee pad with a disposable one in the middle and knock on wood he has'nt shredded it since. Hope this helps.

You could also try the pad holders, they can still chew them up, but they are harder to get ahold of.

Kali started to tear up the paper pee pads too so I was worried about her eating the plastic. I purchased a bunch of cloth pee pads and the problem was solved. She had no problem either adjusting to these from the paper type. Actually, I think it is more economical too in the long run as these pee pads are reportedly good for over 500 washings. They are decorative too and don't look so bad by the back door. Hope the problem resolves for you....

Try spraying the edges of the pee pads with Apple Bitters - it worked for us!

I bought those wee wee pad holders at Petco and I put washable pads in them. Works great. Only draw back is I don't think I will ever be able to put down throw rugs. Baby Katy thinks they are wee wee pads. But at least she doesn't go all over the house - plus she is only 13 weeks old.

Sorry forgot to add. At first I didn't like the idea of washing them either but I use "Nature's Miracle" laundry soap in hot water to wash them in and no odor whatsoever.

I never had the problem where they would tear them apart but we just started using washable pee pads and at first I didn't like the idea of having to wash them...I must say the washable pads are the best and I wouldn't go back to disposable pads. To be honest with you, I personally think you get more of the urine smell on disposable pads than the washable ones, JMO. I leave one out all day and I do not smell the urine and I have three furbabies that use the same pad. I wash them every night with hot water and tide, plus a little softner and they do not smell like urine at all.

Thank you all for giving me some good advice. I will definitely have to decide how to handle this. More than likely I may use a pee pad tray and see how that will do. It's been a long learning process for us and my boyfriend seems to be losing his patience. Especially now because this past Friday both of the pups chewed away a wall from our new house! My boyfriend was furious!!!

They started chewing part of the new cabinets, too, so I have to see if I can try some deoderant because the bitter stuff isn't working one bit anywhere. I need to nip this in the butt before my boyfriend decides that we have to give the puppies up.
