| Lifting that lil leg... Well, Lucky is 5 months old now and he has started lifting his lil leg when he pees. He is trained to go on pads and has always done real good until lately. He gets right on the edge and lifts up his leg. He misses the pad. Any ideas on what would help him go more on the pad? It is so funny to watch him now. They are so precious.... He sprays almost every leaf we come to when I take him outside then he kicks his back legs out like he is throwing dirt. He keeps me laughing.

| My babies are also pad trained and I make sure that one edge of the pad is against a wall so that I can lean the edge of the pad up against it. Both of my boys know to lift their leg against the wall. I've also heard of people making a pee post - they fill a liter bottle with water to weigh it down and wrap it with a pee pad and set it in the middle of the pad on the floor.

| I did the liter bottle and it worked but now that Timmy's been neutered the leg hiking and marking stopped. Everyone that comes over and see him squat makes fun of him but honestly I rather have him squat than hike that little leg up He will however hike his leg up against a tree when we're outside but inside he will not do it...squats right on the pad. If anything Gabby (my girl) loves to miss the pad. Drives me nuts! Thank goodness for hardwood! I also must say that Gabby hikes her leg on the tree as well Never knew a female could do that...lol Keep an eye out on him as he will more than likely start marking and you won't even notice it until you catch him. |

| I've got a little leg lifter too . We use a litter box with the pads in side of it. He always goes to the edge, but the box is high enough that it doesn't get on the floor.

| Can you put down two pads next to each other to enlarge the area; maybe he'll actually go further onto the pad before "hiking the leg". Little Elvis is 8 months old and right after he was groomed a few weeks ago I noticed that he has begun to lift his leg, but so far it doesn't seem to affect the pee stream, it still flows down onto the pad as before...guess he's not hiking at the right angle...hoping he never does, ha! I think he saw another male dog lifting the leg and he is mimicking him. I wished he hadn't learned that.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I take a small water bottle (filled w/ water) and put it in the middle of the pad - bc Marcel just thinks he is THE THING when he can lift that leg to the sky and mark 'er up. Gawd.

| lol.......... It worked... I took a 20 oz water bottle, wrapped it in newspaper and put it in the middle of the pee pad. Lucky got up from his nap and sure enough he lifted his leg right on the bottle. Thanks for the advice. This place is WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, awesome! I'm lazier than you - I don't even wrap it, just leave it as is - but I clean it off when I change the pad. But yep, they just love that mini-fire hydrant, don't they?

I Love My Babies Donating Member | You guys made me laugh. Dexter taught TJ how to lift his leg.. the first time he tried.. he over balanced and tipped right over. But he got it after that. Thank heavens they go outside. When we leave to go to the store, I always put them outside first.. and so far, they haven't lifted their legs in the house.. they are in a small pen and crate when we are gone. But if anyone starts doing that inside... I am going to put down a bottle in the middle of the pee pad. Great idea.. thanks.. I may even make one for outside.. it may save my flowers getting sprinkled.
