| A Yorkie or not a Yorkie that is the question I am really thrilled over this site...so far you guys have been right on the dot with things. I've been seeing some pictures of "Yorkie" pups but when I saw the pictures I saw something weired. Some of these so called yorkie pups have droopy ears. I don't mean like droopy as in cockerspaniel droopy but the ears are not v shaped and eract. What are these little guys...they look like yorkies but I noticed the ears. It's like when you look at a picture that says what's wrong with this picture and can't figure it out than you realize OH it's the ears! True Yorkie's NEED to have eract, v shaped ears right? What else have you guys seen that are not a true yorkies? Thanks Connie and Frank |

| Not all Yorkies ears go up. Sometimes they don't stand fully erect until after they are done teething. You can tape them to make them stand up. There is nothing wrong with the pictures you are seeing, they are yorkies......just with ears not standing yet.

| A lot of true blue Yorkies don't have sticky up ears. My Arnold didn't but my Suzi and Katie do. If there being used for shows it's important, but not for a pet. They're the same lovable furbabies. Hugs Shirl x x |

| nothing is wrong with them.. they are yorkies as well.. their ears just aren't up like the 'standard' calls for! it doesn't make a difference really.. unless you are showing or if you want that look. my Mom's yorkie has floppy ears.. and my Avery's ears stand up.. they are both adorable, just different! (if you like the ears up.. this is just another reason to buy from a great breeder-they will usually trim the ears and start them on their way to having their ears stand up! )

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree that not all Yorkies ears stand, and there are different reasons for this. I would look carefully at the sire and dam, and see if the had the type of qualities I wanted. If the parent's ears are standing, chances are the pups ears will stand. If the parents ears aren't standing, in my opinion, they should not have been bred because they don't met standard. This is not to say they aren't really cute, but I believe that there are enough dogs out there, and only the dogs that meet standard should be bred. This is the way that you ensure a Yorkie will still look like a Yorkie fifty years from now. Some puppy's ears don't stand because they are overly large and actually look better drooping; this is just my opinion, so everyone don't get mad. Other Yorkies ears don't stand because the cartilage isn't strong enough yet, and people recommend massaging to increase blood flow, as well as taping the ear. Usually, just trimming the hair on the ear helps, but there is detailed instruction on trimming and taping the ear in the grooming forum. Some people breed Silky's and sell them as Yorkies, I know people in AZ that have experienced that.

| Floppy ears We call the ears floppy or tipped over and they just didn't stand probably based on Genetics. As an owner of a floppy tip eared Yorkie, I tried EVERYTHING to get them to stand. Rusty was the only one of his litter in which the ears did not stand. His coloring is fantastic, but because of his floppy tippy ears he cannot be shown in confirmation at any dog shows. He can compete in all other areas and he is indeed a Yorkie. He simply has floppy ears. Now, morkies which are a yorkie-maltese mix, have floppy ears too, but the Maltese has ears set farther apart on the head, more to the side of the head, than a yorkie whose ears are at the center of the head with only a small space between them. So the placement of the ears are very important. Rusty has tipped ears which means that the tops or tips of his ears flop over. If he had had the tips cut off, his ears would stand. There was never any cartiledge in the tips, therefore they could not stand. No bone in there. Yorkies come in all shapes, sizes, weights, colors, and ear versions as well as long legs or short legs, longer snouts, shorter snouts. Once you learn what a Yorkie looks like, you will not miss a Yorkie or a Yorkie mix. Hope this helped!

| Thanks again for all the info. The only linguring question is what about the shape. The ears on these puppies look round little longer too. The girl even sent me pictures of the parents and their ears were down as well. The other puppy picture I saw...he is 14 weeks looks pretty big in size and the darn ears are the same. Round shape, they fall downward and they appear to be thicker. I have a chocolate lab.. and these guys ears look wider, bigger and fall downward more than my labs. Also the mom weighs 8 lbs and the dad weighs 7 pounds. I guess there are all kinds huh? I'll look at the pictures on these forum too. thanks |

| If the mom and dad's ears are not standing I doubt if yours will stand up either. It doesn't matter as long as you love them.

| Boobah's ears are sort of floppy. But she is a silky terrier. She has a bear face that is adorable.

| Daxter has floppy ears. Both of his parents ears were erect but to no avail (I tried taping and he has his hair trimmed regularly). Sometimes he has one up one down.Just depends on his mood. He's still adorable to me! And thats what matters! |
