| Solid wood going on the floor.... next week. My yorkies, when they were smaller, just didn't get along with the carpet. Please tell me what I need to know about Yorkies and hardwood floors. Like, if there's a pee accident...They are getting better about the housetraining...but you know how these guys are. Need some advice friends! Oh yeah, hope nobody says...don't do hardwood, because it's already here.

| When I move into a house that we own instead of renting, it will have to have hardwood floors... I hate carpet and think it's so gross!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Hardwood floors can warp if wet for long periods of time. Also the pee can leave a black mark. You just really need to be careful. That is why I have Pergo floors.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | We have hardwood, and I love it, but it not so much about the wood, it's about the finish or sealer, and some finishes are far superior to others. If your wood was prefinished, it's probably done with polyurethane that has a plastic type of material that actually sits on top of the wood. Polyurethane is one of the strongest finishes and factory finishes are usually done with many coats, and special dryers. Other types of finishes such as varnish aren't quite as strong, but many people prefer the look, and they can be further protected with waxes, but this is a real chore, and the reason so many people went back to wall to wall carpeting. There are also oil finishes that sink into the pores of the wood, and offer some protection against water. Oil finishes mixed with polyurethane, such as Waterlox, give some of the best results, and touch ups are relatively easy if something does go wrong. Joey wasn't ever tempted to go on the wood floor like he was with carpet, and we found that he would always go to the pee pad instead of using the wood. With carpet, it took longer for him to choose the pad. We have a dog that visits who marks and he loves the wood, but so far no damage.

| I took out the carpet, put pre-stained hardwood in, and love it. They do go on the floors sometime and I just have to get down on my knees and look for pee spots. Vinegar works well. I carpet the stairs and landing. My 4-month girl sometime goes on the carpet landing, Bissell green machine is very handy. I would like to find a good hardwood cleaner and wax if possible.

| Little Geoffrey has been using the wood floor of my bedroom as a waste container for about two months now as we work on potty training and I've yet to see any damage. I'm more worried about her obsession with consuming her own fecal matter. Yuck! |

| I have sealed hardwoods and just about finished training Cheyenne. I keep a mop bucket handy with vinegar and water. No problems whatsoever.

| I have hardwood floors in the kitchen and family room. When Leo has an accident I just wipe it up with a little cleaner and then use simple solutions spray for hardwood. It is so much easier to clean up a accident on the wood floors then the carpet. |

| Our wood flooring is going to be installed on the 5th, 6th and 7th. It's been long overdue because of all the incompetence from the company. Anyway we did do a very lengthy investigation into different typs of flooring and the hard wood won by a large margin. Since I've never known mine to potty in the house, I doubt I will have any problems with accidents. I also don't let them have run of the house when we aren't home, so that helps I think. |

| The funniest thing is that there is no traction so if your dog runs around like Baxter it will slide when it stops. Baxter gets going and sometimes doesn't stop sliding till he hits the wall. Luckily he hasn't been hurt. It is usually just funny! |

| I remember our family dog doing this! My Suzi gets so excited that Hardwood floors would be bad here. She also plays in her water bowl and makes a huge m ess on the floor. Glad I don't have to deal with the hardwood floor issues.

| love our wood floors! We have to keep her out of the bedrooms with carpet, she is more likely to go on the carpet then the wood floors. Her potty pad is in the kitchen, which is wood floors and she goes on the pad. We do have the pad in one of those tray/holders, so no worries about leaking to the wood floors. Good luck! |

With the area rug in the living room, she peed on it when we first got her. But after that became the area she plays most, she stopped peeing on it. She had been potty trained to go on her pee pad in the kitchen for months now. | |
