| Help! I have Yorkies coming next Wensday I need advice! I need some information about yorkies such as tempermet, behavior, special needs, training, requirments, and other things of this nature. I'm raising them to sell for colledge money. But I want them to be pets outside of their breding purposes is this possible to use them as both? And as far as a kennel and shelter for out side "for less then 5 hours at a time" what would you suggest for size and a doghouse? Is there really a difference between plastic and wood? I want the best for my dogs. Also, what is the best foo dto feed to Yorkies. "resonable prices please" And how much to they eat my first female is 5 pounds and my male is three. |

| You want them to live outside? ............ That'd be a big NO. They are little dogs that need to be inside. That's the only advice I have on the subject.

Senior Yorkie Talker | First, please allow me to say this without hurting you. One should not breed and/or sell Yorkies strictly to raise money. That is sad, irresponsible and selfish especially considering how many poor, unwanted Yorkie babies there are out there!!! Yorkies are a very precious breed. They need lots of love, individual attention, proper and regular vet care, good food and they should be raised indoors as part of a family. Yorkies should never be left outdoors unattended for any length of time even in an enclosed area. Please reconsider what you are about to do!! There are much better ways to earn money for college. Have you tried applying for grants, scholarships, student loand or getting a job? These would be much better way for you to accomplish your goals. Best of luck to you

| First of all, I have to say that I am litterally disgusted by every bit of your post.....For one, you should have done lots of research before you purchased these babies... Does the breeder or person you bought them from know that you are going to throw them outside and leave them to become victims of whatever predator gets to them first...Not to mention how the weather will take it's toll on them....You have come to a YORKIE LOVER FORUM.... Look around on here.....Do you notice that people on here dress their dogs, spoil them with goodies and treats, take tons of pics of them laying around the house, take them to "playdates", cook them their food instead of buying it, etc, etc... I could go on and on about how these dogs are treated like royalty....Not one post or pic of someones beloved baby chained to a tree or fed cheap food in order to save money....I am appalled that you would say you only want the best for them but yet you want to know the cheapest way to feed them and shelter them outside....These are NOT outside dogs...While I personally do not believe that any dog should live outside, I know that small dogs are hawk and coyote food and cannot protect themselves and therefore should by no means be left outside for any amount of time...Have you tried getting a job instead of irresponsibly ruining the life of these poor babies....Please do not expect much positive feedback...... |

| Well, by the time you do pre breed testing on all of them (which should be done), save money for emergency c-sections, buy breeding supplies, pay for vet visits, shots, pre whelping care (xrays) and pay someone else to stay with your female who is about to go into labor or your new puppies who can't be left alone, there might be enough money left over for food and toys. Please research all you can before taking this step. Most Yorkies on YT probably don't have dog houses at all. Mine doesn't go outside unsupervised and I feed her homecooked food. Most Yorkies like to be around people.

| Not sure if you are really serious or what but you may want to look at other ways to pay for your college education. Pets are not livestock to be freely bred and sold. With so many animals needing rescue, why would you want to add to this problem? Pets need and deserve to be in loving, safe homes with people who will look out for their well being. IMO, you should rethink your choice of making money...there are other more responsible ways to do so. And if you are seriously enrolled in college, maybe a tutorial course would be a better way to spend your summer.

| Well as you can see we all have very strong feelings about yorkies on here and for that matter other dogs as well. I am going to think that maybe you were just miss lead about what it takes to raise a yorkie. I hope that you will so do some research and figure out that it cost almost as much as you will make to raise a healthy yorkie puppy. I think you would be better of finding something else to do. You might start by reading around on here first and feel free to ask questions on how to properly care for your yorkies they are wonderfull little dogs but they do take a lot of time and TLC to care for them. I hope you will make the right choice. |
