| I've created two monsters! Help! I have two, seven year old female sisters. They are penned in with a baby gate in the back hallway when we are out of the house. They use to be penned in at night also. However, my husband had two shoulder surgeries in March/April and was sleeping in a recliner and the dogs slept with me in bed. There were not any accidents until this last month. One of them has urinated about 7 different times on the carpet in the living room! AH! I took them to the vet today and they do not have any health issues. We decided they should go back to sleeping in their own bed. OMG!!! They bark, whine, and sound like they are going crazy! After an hour I got up and let them out and brought them to bed. I know! I'm doomed, but I don't want spotted carpet either. Any suggestions for how to deal with it all??? |

| Welcome to YT. Spoiled rotten? I seem to do that, too! At the age of 7, I don't know how to correct the behavior. If you're home during the day, you could take them out every hour and watch them like a hawk. You are going to have to clean the spots on the carpet with an enzymatic cleaner to remove any odor which would bring them back to those areas. If you ever see them going on the carpet, then you must correct them on the spot and take them immediately outside.

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | welcome to YT...i know what you mean...if we leave MeiLing sleeping in the crate everyday it is fine...but if we decide to have her sleep with us one day...the moment we put her back into her crate...she barks, yells, whines, cries, and scream...but you gotta be tough and ignore it i guess...and a day or two later they will give up...they won't scream all night...i don't think...hehe good luck!

| I was just thinking and I have read that when they relapse like that, then you have to start retraining them just like you would a new puppy. Hope this helps some.

| Welcome to YT. Well spoiling is easy to do and then harder to correct. But the more you can be strict to keep them in the crate till you can take them out the better. They will finally realize they have to stay there. A few sleepless nites or years of spoiled rotten furballs. You have to catch them in the act. Try giving them a treat when they go to the crate and see if that helps. They will get excited to go in.

| Thanks for the welcome and the responses. Maggie weighs 7 pounds and her sister, Sophie is the runt of the litter and weighs 4 pounds. I love them to death. I am home in the summer so they are with me 24/7 and they want that at night too! Guess I am going to have to exhibit some tough love and have them go back to their bed at night. At least they have each other, right? I have the carpet cleaner coming tomorrow morning to get the carpet cleaned really well in that area. Just had the whole house done in May! AH! I don't want to be mad at them if they aren't able to hold it all night in bed with us. They can hold it in their own bed area though. Poor babies, poor mama! It's my own fault, but I thought they could do it. |

| Try placing down pee pads in the night for them. The pads have a smell on them that dogs will go to and pee. Welcome to YT Remember that any kind of change can be upsetting to dogs. Just be consistent and patient.

| I would suggest taking them both on a long walk before bedtime. this way when you go home they will have relieved themselves and are to tired to throw a doggytantrum and will HOPEFULLY go right to sleep in their beds.. and I know its hard to do but you have to ignore their sad little pleas to get in that bed with you! they have learned by now that when they cry to momma she will give in. be strong! |

| wow i guess it IS harder to correct than to spoil them lol. i def agree with using that enzyme to prevent them from coming back to the same spot. luckily Abby is ok with either sleeping on her bed or ours. Wen im home, i let her sleep with me on my bed, but wen my bf and i do sleepovers, she goes to her. thankfully she doesn't mind. even at my house she wil sometimes get off my bed to go to hers |
