| Does your pup have seizures?? My 11 week old puppy has been having seizures..and after taking her to the vet we still don't know what could be wrong..the doctors think it is something in her central nervous system and want to put her on medication.. The seizures started out of nowhere...she begins to foam at the mouth and then run around like crazy, listless.. We are still very hopeful and wonder if anyone has had this problem and know if maybe they can outgrow these seizures.. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm confused is this your thread too? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ease-help.html It was about the same thing with a three month old pup you were babysitting. Do you keep rat poison in the house? It will cause foaming at the mouth, what happened to the other dog?

| could it be hypoglycemia? Hypoglycemic dogs can go into seizures. If this is happening to multiple dogs they might be getting into a toxin around your house

| is she eating regularly? When she starts to get listless and has seizures have you tried rubbing syrup/honey/nutrical on her gums? I just wonder if she's getting hypoglycemic. There is always the posibility of liver shunt as well..it is very common in yorkies and hypoglycemia and seizures can be a symptom. I definitely recommend having a blood panel and a Bile Acid Test done to check for liver shunt. It could also be a toxin that she's gotten into or something neurological.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Duh, stupid me, 3 months sounded so much older than 11 weeks, I thought it was 2 different pups. Hope you find out the problem. Here's a link to the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia Symptoms and Treatment

| These are the possible causes of seizures in a puppy: LESS THAN 1 YEAR OF AGE Anomaly: hydrocephalus. Inflammatory: Infectious - Viral: canine distemper; parasitic; bacterial; fungal Immune mediated Metabolic: Hepatic - portosystemic shunt; Autoimmune thyroiditis (early stage: TgAA positive); Hypoglycemia; Electrolyte disorders Toxic: Single or combination vaccines; Lead; Drug related; Other exposures Trauma: Acute; Delayed Degenerative: Storage disorders Primary: Idiopathic Epilepsy ("idiopathic" = cause unknown or undetermined) POSSIBLE CAUSES OF SEIZURES BY AGE Has your puppy had a bile acids test? If it's not hypoglycemia, that's the next thing I'd suspect. |
