Ellie's mom is more of a silvery color than black. Ellie has pieces of silver but isn't as light. It is too light to be standard.

I have 2 silver yorkies and while I think they are cute I dont think they should be bred but Ive seen plenty of breeders on here doing it. I really think it takes an excellent breeder to hold to the standard

I have seen many dogs in the for sale area and the nursery area that are the total opposite of the standard for a yorkie. So I find it quite funny when someone says you shouldn't breed certain colors becuase it isn't the standard but then they go and breed a yorkie that according to AKC is not the a proper representation of the breed either. So I think if people are to criticise one thing because it doesn't represent the yorkie properly they should criticise another.
I agree with what you're saying, in a way, and many breeders don't breed to standard. Any breeder can join Yorkietalk, and just belonging doesn't make them a good breeder. Most of the really poor breeders don't even read the rest of the forum and aren't giving "advice" on how to breed properly anyway, but really good breeders always breed to standard. This doesn't mean every puppy they produce will be show quality, it just means you have a better than average chance of getting a puppy that has those traits that make Yorkies unique from other dogs. Joey's breeder told me the other day, that one of her pups is nearly perfect in every aspect, she was so proud of him, he only has one flaw, his bite is off, and this means that he should never be bred. The bite isn't a serious issue and will cause the dog no problems, and it's possible he could out grow the condition, but still this is the only reason this dog won't be shown or bred. He will make someone a perfect pet, and the average person would have no idea his bite is off, but a really great breeder won't breed a dog unless they are standard. So it's not just color or size it's every aspect of what standard entails. I would never support a breeder who didn't breed to standard. I wish other people wouldn't either.

I picked a yorkie because of their lil personalities and their uniqueness... I don't give a hoot if he is perfect and "standard" or not.. I want a lil spice so off the "standard" is fine with me.. if I wanted a standard yorkie I would have cloned one of the standards ones and been bored with myself..... love a yorkie for a yorkie regardless the color size or how it's registered... I'd not love my children any less if they ahd a hair or eye color I didn't want them to have, nor would I be up set if Cyan was registered and Korbin was not..... and since i see my Leo as a child, he is perfect they way he is. thank you

One thing I don't think most people understand . . . is that finding a Yorkie that truly meets "standard" is what is indeed . . . unique.

However, a yorkie doesn't need to meet "standard" in order to be adorable.

Wink

I have to say, I too love my furbaby unconditionally.

It doesn't matter one little bit that he won't breed or be shown. He loves to play, and be what he is, a little dog.

I don't want him to be perfect. He's a mixture of terrier's, and it doesn't matter how hard anyone tries to breed the perfect Yorkie, he'll still have the gene's of mixed terriers.

Love

Max's coat changes, at the moment he's tan, champagne, black and grey,
but the black and grey mix looks blue.

He's as colourful as his nature lol.

Sorry, I just adore him.

No, the chocolate yorkies are no more prone to health problems then the standard colored ones. There are blue born yorkies that are a different story all together.

My Daisy is blonde on her head and very silvery/gray on her back. She's also very tall and weighs nearly 9 lbs. She's not anywhere near standard. We adore her.
