| How to get to walk on leash I can't for anything get Madddy to walk on a leash. She just stops and won't move. I didn't have this problem with my 4 shihtzus, they just walked. Last night hubby and I took the shihtzus for a walk, and I didn't want to leave Maddy behind because I can hear her barking as we walk away so i carried her the whole way. I put her down twice to try and get her to walk and still nothing. I think i need the Dog Whisperer to make a visit to my house. I thought about getting a stroller (hubby laughed at me), but I don't know if I could push a stroller and walk the other dogs at the same time. Does anybody have any advice. If I put a leash on her while I'm watching her in the house or yard, she'll walk around, but once I grab the other end, she wants no part of it. Joan |

| I had the same problem with Olivia. We have no yard so she doesn't have a chance to romp around outside in a yard at home. One weekend I took her to my mom's who has a huge yard. Olivia was on her leash and ran around like a mad woman and was rolling in the grass. She completely forgot she was on the leash because she was having such a good time. I tried to get her to walk on a leash in the house prior to that and she refused. I think your puppy probably isn't used to the leash and having something "guide" her where to go. She'll probably get used to it more if she doesn't feel like she's being forced to do something. Do you have a retractable leash you could use? I got a really inexpensive one at Walmart for like $8. That way, you could set her down in the yard with the leash on her and walk away a bit. Have treats and call her to you or throw a ball for her to catch. She won't want to miss a game or some treats just to keep up her stubborness. It takes time, but it will come. A retractable leash will also be good for walks. I know that if Olivia sits down and I walk away with the leash unlocked, she'll get nervous that I'm leaving her and will catch up with me. (Just make sure you don't walk too far if there are other dogs around) Give lots of praise when she does come to you or walk with you on the leash. Good luck, and I hope this helps. These little yorkies sure know how to be stubborn some times! |

| I think that you just have to try it everyday and eventually she will get used to it. Esme used to have the same problem when she was a pup. I still put her on her leash EVERY DAY. Eventually, she got used to it and walked.

| At first, I found mine would walk fine on pavement or concrete, but not grass. Now, she's fine with both.

| Leash training Just a tip. If you have a show lead these work great in leash training and or a harness. You just place the loop behind the front legs, this will keep from harming their throat when they decide to go the opposite way and are choking themselves.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | tucker did THE SAME EXACT THING!! i NEVER thought he would get it. all you have to do is walk him around the yard or you can keep his leash on in the house. make sure you can always see him so he doesn't get hurt, but eventually he'll get it. good luck!

| My yorkie female Emmie does the same exact thing!! She is 5 1/2 months and only a little over 2 lbs. I put her on the leash and she will not move for anything. She actually gets mad and will try to bite at the leash. My other female yorkie who is now almost 8 years old never did that. Does anyone know if she will out grow this and it is just a thing puppies sometimes do? Thanks!
