YT Addict | Does anyone have barkers? We have had Bruno for almost two weeks now. The first week he never made a sound. I guess he was just getting used to everything. The last few days he barks and growls at everything!! My 5 yr. old is sitting here watching Monsters Inc. He keeps growling at the tv. When my hubby comes home from work he spends half an hour trying to get hm to stop barking at him. I have noticed he is kinda jumpy around the hubby as well. Kinda makes me think that he was misstreated by a male in th home we got him from.

| Mine are barkers but over time we have trained them to stop barking when we say stop. It just takes time. Try shaking a can with change at him when he barks and say no barking

| I dont know how old your Yorkie is but Sadie was quiet the first week or so when we brought her home. Now, she barks when she is in a playful mood. She loves the cats and will hunch down in front of them and bark at them and skip around them to get them to play with her! And they normally will. My cats are used to dogs so they play along fairly well with her. LOL. So when Sadie barks, its normally when she is playing. I think if yours barks and you dont want him to, you can tell him No when he does it and maybe he'll learn to stop. |

I would seriously try to get him socialized to all kinds of situations, places, other animals, traveling in the car, and other places in the hopes that he won't be a barker. It would be good if your husband maybe took him for walks, too. They could bond. I remember you said he was two years old? But there is still a chance that he can be well-socialized so he wouldn't be a barker or perhaps aggressive. It just sounds like he's getting comfortable enough to show his little personality, too.

| Mine two males bark when they are play fighting. So....I pull out the fly swat. As long as I have that fly swat in my hand they fight silently. They also bark when they are scared, but I usually just pick them up and baby them and tell them it is ok. Maybe your baby is trying to tell you something. Every night around 9:30 Bernie will sit in front of my husband and bark a couple of times. He's letting my husband know that he is ready to get in the bed. (It's too high for him to jump on it) So my husband picks him up and puts him in the bed. Good luck!

| I do the same as Chachi's mom - shake pennies in a pop can... It's always seemed to work. If Deegan barks or growls when he shouldn't be, we just give the can a light shake and he quiets down. He is a bit afraid of it, but it's the only thing that seems to work on the first try.

| What about backyard barkers?? Tobey is a year and a half. We have Always tried to discourage any barking with the spray bottle and can shaking method in the house, but when I let him out he barks at the neighbors through the fence. He didn't used to and it;s gotten worse this year. sometimes I get so fed up that I go marching across the yard with the spray bottle in hand! My neighbors just laugh at me but I don't want to have a rude dog. and no offense, but I think that dogs that bark like crazy when they are outside are really annoying and now my beloved Tobes is turning into one of those dogs!! its so embarrassing!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | OMG yes but Izzy didn't start barking until over a year (she is a year and a half now). It's funny because the Alltell cell phone commercial with the door bell ringing..well..she hears that and starts to bark her little head off.
