| Need help...puppy proofing My furbaby is coming home Friday and I am trying to get everything ready for him. I can not figure out what to do about my computer area as it has tons of cords and is a mess. I am posting a pic so you can see what I am talking about. Anyone have suggestions on what to do with it to get it out of the way so he won't be able to chew on the cords. All my other cords throughout the house are going to be pretty easy to get out of the way but I don't even know where to start with this mess. Any ideas would be very appreciated, or if you could post photos of how you have yours set up that would be great to. |

| You can buy cord covers for them.... Or bitter spray. Truthfully, I unplug everything, and when I use the computor I am always watching for Suzi. I have been teaching her to stay away, so has my son. These little guys learn quickly. You can also keep your puppy in a crate, or pen, when you are unable to supervise. OR keep him in a different room, or the computor.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I would recommend going to a office supply store like Office Max. That's the name of the one we went to I don't know if they are nationwide or not. Anyway we got cord covers to protect the cords and the dogs and the rabbit. We have a Netherland Dwarf Rabbit who chewed through cords on our computer which of course caused it to shut down. It took us a while before we realized that the rabbit had chewed through the cords. Didn't harm the rabbit. lol. We've since covered the cords throughout the house. So when we got our Yorkie it was taken care of. Hope you find what you need. Scoop

| I have cord wraps on mine. You would also want to block any possible access so your pup can't get to that area.

| My bf took each cord behind my computer (believe it or not, but it was messier than yours!) and wrapped each one up in his hand till they were all tight and put a ziptie around each one. It looks so neat now, and they're all behind the computer, so Scooter can't get to them. Works wonders. Also sprayed a bit of bitter spray just in case he got back there, but have never had a problem - no temptations with the cords up high!

| Where do you get bitter spray? It might be a silly question, but where do you get "bitter spray" from? I never heard of that! Is it something you can make at home or do you buy it at the store? My pup chews on a lot of random stuff and I think this is what I need to prevent his chewing sprees on my home decor! Thanks! |

| As the other said, bitter apple spray is pretty effective This applies to just about any mammal. The problem with it is that it wears off really fast. You have to apply it ever day or two. I have a screamer in the back of my desk. That works wonders. It scares the crap out of them when they go behind my desk, so they rarely do it anymore. I've used it for a lot of situations with my cats, dogs, and ferrets. I put it under my desk one day when one of my dogs got electrocuted from chewing wires I didn't even know she'd been chewing :S |

| I don't have this problem, (yet...) Dixie and Teddy have only the Kitchen to run in right now. I do remember seeing these two things in a child safety magazine. The place is callled: One Step Ahead. Click on safety and then click on living room and they pop right up. If you chose the black thing you could then spray that with bitter apple. The black one is only like, 17.00 and the one that goes along the molding is like, $13. Look around, you may find some other things too... |

| Thanks everyone for the advice. I am going to get some of that bitter apple spray and see how it works. I am also going to wrap/tape up each cord and tuck it away so he will hopefully not be able to get to it. I decided for the first little bit I am going to make the kitchen his space until I can trust him in the rest of the house and potty training is going ok. I finally found a gate that will work for our kitchen area as we have an 8ft opening into the living room. I only plan on keeping him in there when I can't keep a close eye on him. The great thing is I stay at home so I will be here most the time and he can have a little more freedom. Also we have laminte wood floors everywhere except the bedrooms so accidents will be easy to clean up. I am not sure about him sleeping in the kitchen though...I think he will be lonely as it is so far from my room. I think he is going to be too little to sleep in my bed for a while. I would be worried my hubby would roll over on him or he would fall off the bed. I am thinking of bringing his crate in my room at night as I have to keep my bedroom door open since I have a 6 month old across the hallway that I need to be able to hear. I guess I will just have to see what he likes best. I am so excited and nervous! 3 more days! |

| I have my puppy in a fenced in area in my living room which is on the opposite end of my house. My husband works early so when he gets up in the morning, he takes her out. Then when I get up a few hours later, I take her out. We have a baby that has a monitor in his room and because its so sensitive to sound, I can hear the puppy halfway through the house through the monitor if she cries at night for an emergency trip outside. |
