| Shipping a puppy across the states...??? I need advice and honesty here....what else would I be looking for from my wonderful YT community? I know, silly for me to say. I am getting a new puppy for a baby brother for my little Derby and I have found a few out of state that I have fallen in love with from talking to their breeders over the phone and via email and looking at pics. The only thing is....they are about 7 states away and they would need to be shipped. I know that yorkies are expensive, this I understand and it costs $250 to ship them which I am prepared to pay but I am worried about the little guy waiting at the airport then going into the cargo under the plane and aw....it makes me sad to think of how scary that will be. I have thought of flying out there to meet the pups since I am still deciding which one to get but that would cost $524 for the ticket and that's not counting the price to bring him back with me one way. Plus I would have to get him and come back the same day because I don't know a single person over there. Anyway, I would love to hear success stories on shipping pups or any other advice you may have. I know, I should get a pup from California Breeders but I haven't found any that have pups that have tugged at my heart the way these have.

| Well I had one of my females shipped to me from MI. She did good but, I really don't like to ship but would if I had to. I also had to ship one of my puppies one time and they paid extra and had it shipped VIP which means the plane doesn't make any stops it fly's from them to you with no layovers so it is alot quicker and the puppy doesn't have to switch planes and sit out in the heat with the cargo. I think it was an extra $80-$100 for that. so the total for shipping was $300-$350. You should call the airport or have the breeder call the airport and ask about having this option! Just an idea...good luck!!

| Have you checked into the breeders that you are talking to. What state are they in? I am not sure that I personally would be as worried about the puppy flying, since I am sure that they are taken care of, but of the breeders sending a sick puppy or not sending one at all.. Maybe if you post who the breeder is or where they are located, then someone from YT may know them or be able to go meet them for you. If that checks out, then I would say that having him shipped might be ok...Good Luck with your decision!! |

| pup I would not buy a puppy from an unknown breeder if I could not visit the breeder in person..and not just meeting them at the airport. I would keep looking...pictures do pull at your heart strings..but they can look very different in person..some people could not pick out their pup when they came to my home...they had photo in hand and still got confused as to who was who...LOL |

| I had my Lucy shipped from Charlotte, North Carolina to Memphis, Tennessee and then from Memphis she had to change planes and get on the plane from Memphis to Chattanooga, Tn. She started out at the airport in Charlotte around l0 a.m. and it was just getting dark when she arrived in Chattanooga. The airline assigned an employee to meet the plane in Memphis and to feed (a small amount) and water her and take her out to potty. Then they played with her until it was time to put her on the second plane. I am sure it cost extra for that service but well worth knowing she was being cared for and not just sitting with the cargo. This is my only experience with flying a yorkie. I do know that there are certain rules about temperature, etc. that are enforced when they fly.
