Default Introducing a new Yorkie

Hi I am new here. I have a 4 year old female Yorkie named Roxy and a couple days ago we got a male named Ace to keep her company. Roxy is a very submissive non aggressive 6 lb. dog so we told the breeder we would wait for a small male because we thought that would be the best fit. Roxy has always been fine around other dogs her size but she hasn't had much exposure to any other dogs.

We have been trying to introduce the dogs but it seems like Roxy is scared of Ace. From the minute I walked into the house with Ace Roxy new something was up. We have had dog visitors before and she never acted this way. She stays away from me when I am close to Ace and shy's away when Ace approaches her. I have not neglected her at all, I love her so much and the main reason we got another Yorkie is so she has a friend.

If Ace is with me and Roxy comes up Ace is starting to growl or bark. I feel so bad for Roxy. Is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I tried to upload pics but they were to large.

Welcome to YT! It will take them a little bit to get used to eachother, they just need to adjust to the new changes. When we got our 2nd yorkie Bella my moms male Bazil wouldnt go near her for 2 weeks, now you would never know, they are best buddies. give them some time and they will come around good luck

Gizmo is an only child, but it sounds like you've been given some great advice and will receive even more, I'm sure.

Welcome to YorkieTalk!

I would recommend regularly holding her on your lap and letting him bounce around on the floor, reinforcing that she is the higher ranking family member. If she resents him they may not become friends. They will have to work out the pecking order for themselves but it sounds like she just needs to know she's not going to be second place. If she is confident in her standing she will be more likely to accept the new boy. It will take a little time for them to adjust to one another. Best of luck.

I agree.. I read that when introducing a new dog or puppy into a family you must always have your first dog on your lap petting her while petting your second dog that is on the floor.. This shows that your first dog is the pack head and the second dog or pup that he/she is second..
Welcome to YT and congrats on your new pup...

Welcome to YT!

Well Roxy's face says it all! Yep, she wonders what you've done to the household bringing that (cute) pup in.

Time will change everything - just keep loving her and let her know she is the queen

They are both precious! I agree with the others. Give it a little time and give her lots of love and attention.

Welcome,
I have had Darcy my pup for over 8 weeks now, and willis my 6 year old Yorkie has taken this long to accept her properly, It has been very gradual, but they are finally best of friends, They are constantly playing now.
It just takes time.

Just give her some time. Having brought 4 new puppies into a once single dog home at various times over the past 2 1/2 times it just takes some longer to accept. All 4 of mine get along fine now and sleep next to each other and play all the time. Your babies are darling. Roxy's face looks just like my Cali's when I brought Pixie home. It took her several weeks to loose that look. Just give Roxy lots of attention and she should adjust.
