I was literally at the gate boarding when they checked. Twice...two different airports.

| I would be careful doing this... just because I know when I booked with Continental Airlines, they had a limit as to how many pets were allowed on board at one time. I wouldn't want to pay at the counter only to find out they were at their limit. But some airlines might be different.

| Me and BoBo flew Continetal at Christmas and they didn't even charge a fee! Of course I wouldn't bank on this. I just got lucky. At any rate, they were really good with lil' BoBo, so I would recommend them. |

| This thread made me curious so I checked, and the biggest airline here, Air Canada, doesn't allow pets in the cabin anymore due to complaints from allergy sufferers!

| I just flew Spirit and it was $75 each way. Although no one asked for his health certificate or his ticket, I'd be nervous not paying though. It'd be my luck they check, too.

On the trips a few years ago when I did pay for Gracie, I was never given a receipt, tags, ticket, etc. for her---she didn't even show on my boarding pass. The extra money I paid only showed on my credit card bill a month later. Her carrier is tiny and looks like a purse. No one has ever questioned me getting on a plane--and I fly with her about 12 times a year. | |

| Just curious but what do you do when you get to the security check point where they put all your carry ons through the x ray machine?

| The dog is carried by you through the metal detector and the dog's bag goes through the x-ray machine. I have done this with two dogs before and it is quite a juggle holding two and doing everything. Remember to do everything first before the dog and then the dogs first before the other stuff after you are through Last time, I had one dog, but they wanted to pat me down. Told me to put my arms out. When they saw that I had the dog held out in one hand they said that I did not have to hold my arm out with the dog. (I try to fly my puppies to their new homes, so they don't have to fly cargo.)

Exactly my question. It sounds like some people are able to get away without paying for their pet and go ahead and board with them anyway.....how do they do that when they get to the xray machine? If they don't know that the pup is in the purse, don't they figure it out when you have to put the purse on the conveyer belt? Don't they ask there for the proof of boarding for the dog?

| I've been using this website. It lists airlines, a brief description of their policy, and then a link to their website. It's helped me a lot in figuring out which airlines allow pets, size restrictions of carriers, etc. Summary of Airline Pet-Transport Policies | The Humane Society of the United States

| I'm not as adventurous as some. I know that when checking luggage I have to go to the counter regardless of whether I printed my boarding pass and as soon as they pull up my reservation they know I have a dog. For me, it's not worth the risk. I would be very upset if I got stopped and hadn't made a reservationf for Lucy and the cabin was at it's limit.
