Unlove

First of all bless your heart!!!! I feel so bad for you and the situation they have put you in.

Secondly, you NEED to go see an attorney. Find out what your rights are NOW. I used to work for attorneys so I'm telling you that you NEED to go speak to an attorney because it seems to me that this is very underhanded and you would hate to look back and wonder "what if".......you know? You need to write out the details of you buying the dog, what the original condo owners told you, etc., etc., You can't write down too much information!!! Have the other people in your condo complex write letters as well. It wouldn't hurt to get the media involved either. Do you have a "investigative" reporter on any of the local news channels? If so, contact them and tell your story. I think what they are doing to ya'll and putting ya'll through is absolutely horrible and if someone stands up for those precious furbabies you will be glad you did. It probably won't be a cake walk but I'd rather go down knowing I did everything I possibly could than not fight the fight at all.

You hang in there and you fight for Pokey!!! You fight for Pokey and all the other furbabies and furbaby parents that love their animals just like their own children.

Wow......I guess I should say........I'm Tabatha Allen and I approve this message! lol

I don't think anyone should give you a hard time because I can tell by your post your heart is breaking wide open. HUGS!!!! Please keep us posted!!!!

Default problem

An Attorney..as fast as possible. Some have a small fee for things like this...a friend paid $59 for a consultation to find out her rights...this is illegal.

Man this is a tuff one.... However, if you did sign the contract that says you will abide by any changes by possible new owners, well then that is going to be really tuff. That being said, it's even MORE reason to seek legal recourse. I would be contacting an attorney immediately, if not sooner.
Best of luck to you, I can't even imagine how devastating this must be... Please keep us posted!! x

That is RIDICULOUS!!! I dont know how they can get away with saying you are breaking your lease when they are the ones changing the lease agreement.
I cannot believe it

But I agree with the persom that said maybe all of us can confront the new owners in peace and plead to them that we came here for the the love of our pets. This place is known as an excellent pet home! I know for a fact we would all be willing to pay more of a pet deposit just to keep our babies here. (not to forget I already paid a $1000 pet deposit!) But if they let me keep her and my dream home I am willing to pay more!
I think I would find another attorney. I think that claUSE IN AND OF ITSELF IS ILLEGAL. tHAT IS LIKE SIGNING A BLANK CONTRACT. I just don't think it is legal in any contract to state that the contract can be changed at any time.

I think I would let them evict you, they cannot force you to pay the $6000 fine if they evict you which is basiclally letting you out of your lease

They can stop new tenants from bringing pets in but they can't make existing pets go away. That goes against human rights. Fight it girl.

I agree with everyone on here. Fight for your baby. And get a doc to write a letter stating that Pokey is your service dog. Your lawyer is crazy if he/she thinks you are bonded to this just because it states that you have to obide by new owners rules if sold. You have a right!!! Get EVERYONE to sign a letter stating that if the new owners dont change their mind about the existing pets then you will sapiena (sp) them into court and fight your lease!

If all else fails, MOVE OUT! So what, you'll owe them $6000, fight that too! Then tell them "bill me" lol

But seriously, If that was truly your child, would you send it to its grandparents because someone told you to get rid of them? Well Pokey's your baby, and NO ONE would take my Babies from me!

Good luck hun, and keep us posted!

I would get the other tenats together and hire an attorney ASAP! The very least they should grandfather the pets that are there currently. I was in the middle of purchasing a condo once just as they were changing the policy on animals and because I had just made the cut off, I was able to grandfather my 2 cats in.

I also agree with the other posters that the media will help with drawing attention to this issue...negative attention for the new owners.

I wish you luck with this and hope that everything works out for you and your neighbors.

I think its ridiculous of the new owners. There must be something in the lease about it. How can they expect you to get rid of your pets. If it was a family community before and new owners took over to make it an adult community would they say get rid of your kids but your not breaking the lease or you will pay a fine? Something is not right here and all you pet owners should get together and figure it out. Stand up for your rights.

Take action, please. What I have learned in life the hard way is to not let people push you around and hurt you. You have every right as a US citizen to fight back.

This last April I finally got my dream condo that I have been on a 6year waiting list for! Its been my dream for so long. In my complex there are 2 beautiful dog parks and all animals, even large dogs are accepted here. The community is gorgeous with walking trails, a river and the most dog friendly people. Well, the community sold to a new owner and that owner gave notice last month that ALL pets are now banned and we got a 60 day notice to vacate or remove pets. If we vacate however, they say we are breaking the lease, and for my 2 year lease I would pay a $6000 fine to move. Plus I am SO HAPPY here. I am so torn. Pokey can stay with my family nearby and will be very happy if I choose to go that route but I dont know if I can separate from her. But I cannot afford another move and the fine. Because Im in a lease, I am considering hiring an attorney with my other tenants (about 150 are willing to try to sue if we have any basis) I should be able to keep her here as a part of my lease agreement until the lease is up or be let out of my contract. But there IS a clause in my lease stating if the property is sold we MUST abide by the new owners lease/rules immediately. If I had known they might sell, I would not have purchased Pokey until I was sure. But back in October when I was at the top of the condo waiting list, they ASSURED me it was ok to get my baby and bring her there with me. So now if I have to rehome her and pay a fine I just am so torn.

What I am asking my fellow YTers for is understanding, support, advice and reassurance. PLEASE try not to make me feel anymore guily for even considering giving Pokey to my parents. I already feel like I m giving a child away and I feel like an unfit Mom. It has taken me a month to post this because Im so scared some people on here may scorn me. Please just tell me what you would do and try to understand my dilemma. This is my dream home. I would NEVER have done this to an animal had I been given the slightest inkling this could happen. 60% of why I waited so long for this home was because of the animal loving communtiy and the 2 dog parks WITHIN my residence. When I got word I was next to move in I started my LONG awaited Yorkie search and was blessed with my Pokey. I will stop rambling. Please just go easy on me with your comments. Thank you so much. I really need your support right now. I dont ever remember being this depressed in all my 35 years
sounds like if you have to stay till your 2 year lease and if not then you are breaking it then they must abide by the lease that you signed which includes your pet. I would def go the lawyer route. Sounds to me they cant do this.

How can they change the rules after you have a contract already? If you MUST leave then they should waive the $6,000 fine!

Judy I completly agree.. they cannot say you have to leave due to having a dog.. then tell you your breaking the contract... you need to stand your ground.. they need to grandfather all dogs that now live there and make new rules for the new people.. I would ask about this and not let these new owners brow beat you guys like this..
Please stand your ground.. and keep us updated on this forum..anne
