| Scariest Situation Hi everyone - I was just remembering about one of the scariest situations that Deegan was in a few minutes ago and thought I'd create a post for everyone to share their stories... Some of you may remember it but here's our story: It was a nice summer morning and we had had Deegan for about a month, so he was probably about 4.5 months old... Our routine was that I would put him outside in the morning after he ate so that he could do his business and get some fresh morning air... While we were sitting outside the phone rang so I went in the house to answer it and as I was talking I got distracted and wasn't paying close attention to him. After I got off the phone, I looked around and couldn't see him anywhere - my heart began to pound. I ran around the yard, looking in every nook and cranky there was - under the patio, by the bbq, behind the shed - couldn't see him anywhere - I was in such a panic... I ran inside and decided to look out the windows in the house because it would give me an overview of the yard. And low & behold there he was!!! I was almost paralyzed with fear!!! He had somehow gotten through the fence and was in our next door neighbours backyard... he managed to crawl up their patio stairs and was sitting on a floaty (the kind you lay on in the pool), which was half on the patio -but also half in the pool!!! OMG! Scared me to death cause I thought if he takes one step further that he might fall off the floaty and fall into the pool! I never ran so fast - out our yard and into theirs... To make a long story short, I'm happy to say that I managed to get him before he fell in, but I won't ever forget that day & thank god that he managed to keep my baby safe until I got there. Needless to safe we blocked every tiny space we could through the fence so something like that wouldn't happen again. Now, it's your turn to share.

| OMG, That is scary. I live upstairs in an apartment, My biggest fear is that Suzi is going to fall off the deck. I do not remember all the details, but, somehow she did get on the deck... I caught her there, and she was close to the edge sniffing. YES, it scared me. We now use a baby gate . SHE has also got into chocolate which left me in hysterics. These little guys are so incredible fast, and smart. I have learned my lesson. She is 4 months old, and is quite a handful! Suzi does not go outside w/o me.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I think my scariest thing was our Teddy having a problem breathing when he was about 1. He seemed to be choking and couldn't breath. A FAST trip to the vet and they found a fox tail in his nose. It had become irritated and his nose and throat were closing up. We didn't even have weeds in our yard but they blew in the wind into our yard. Needless to say we can't prevent this but it never happened again thank goodness.

| My scariest moment with Layla was coming home from work one day expecting to see her running and jumping at the top of the stairs like always, but instead she walked out with her head and face covered in blood I immediately started crying and called the vet. It was coming from her eyes and the top of her head, and I noticed her rubbing her face on EVERYTHING and scratching her eyes like crazy. I took her in and it was allergies and she got better with some steroids and eye drops, but oh my gosh I was so scared she was seriously hurt.

| All of these stories are scary and remind me that these little guys/gals can get into anything with a moments notice. Sophie did something similar and escaped from the yard while I stepped inside. She was returned thank goodness! The foxtail reaction is really scary. You can't keep that stuff out of the area. |

| My scarey story was last summer when Remy went in for her spay and hernia surgery. The vet damaged her throat with the tube they insert for surgery. She was coughing when I picked her up , they said dont worry about it it will go away in a few days. Well the next day the coughing got worse ,as the night progressed she started to retch and vomit .I took her to the nearest clinic for x-rays that showed her throat had swollen almost closed. Even though she was getting worse at the clinic they sent her home with medicine, about an hour after I got her home from there she stopped breathing , I managed to get her breathing again and rushed her to the emergency vet . They put her on oxygen and hooked her up to IV's.She came pretty close to dieing that day.The vet that did the damage refuses to take responsebility and to top the whole thing off the vet didnt repair the hernia properly and Remy has had to have the hernia re-repaired again! Remy just had her surgery on monday and this is her recovering |

| Rat poison The biggest scare we had with Gizmo was when he found a box of D-Con rat bait/poison that I didn't even know was in the house! Thank God we saw him in time and got him to the ER vet immediately. Now I always keep hydrogen peroxide on hand to induce vomiting and the number for the ER vet posted by the fridge. Here's a link to the thread about it. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-rat-bait.html

| The scariest thing so far with Murphy was when he got out of his harness and took off toward a 4 lane highway. Now he wears a Buddy Belt harness.

| Wow! I can't believe all these stories! Just goes to show you they are so much like kids... some things are just so unpredictable. But I'm glad everyones stories ended up with the babies being fine in the end.

| Our scariest story was when I gave Onni a piece of jerky that was to big and she got it caught in her throat. We had to pull it out. Scared me big time. Needless to say I am almost neurotic about what she eats now.

| Mine and Sassy's TRAUMA (very long!) I think my very most traumatic experience with Sassy was an incident from last month. I had a very jammed up day because I had so many things to do and Sassy's vet was leaving for some days and I needed to have her ears re-checked before he left. Before the appointment, I had to deliver some menus to one of my restaurant accounts. As I left there, I took my bank card out to pay and she comped my ticket so I put my card away and left to go home and get Sassy for her appointment. I got her and we went to the vet and there were a lot of BIG dogs in there and that always makes me very paranoid. So I held Sassy the whole while....we saw the vet...everything was fine. I was waiting to pay with all those BIG dogs around us at the desk, and one of them was very interested in Sassy which made me quite nervous. I had taken my card out to pay and it was on the counter. There were quite a few ahead of me and we were waiting for Sassy's paperwork from the back so we could be processed. Meanwhile, I was dealing with the bigger dogs while being assured by their owners they wouldn't do anything. But I am really afraid of large dogs, anyway, so their reassurances were of no comfort to me. Finally, it was our turn to pay. Thank goodness! I looked in my purse to get my card...it wasn't there. Oh NO! I think. Then, I thought maybe I left it at the restaurant. So I paid with a credit card and went to my van to look for my card. I placed Sassy in her seat and went to the drivers side and proceeded to empty my purse onto the seat. No card. Now I am really distressed because it is connected to my bank account and I could be wiped out if it was lost. I called the restaurant. Nope. Not there. So now I am on the phone with the bank canceling the card. No activity on it so far so I didn't need to worry about that. While I was on the phone waiting for the bank, I got a beep, which I ignored so I could finish with canceling the card. Once that was done I checked my calls. It was one of the girls inside telling me that my card was in there. Great. I had finished canceling it already. **SIGH** Before I thought of what I was doing and out of pure habit, I reached up and pushed the lock button and closed the door. OH MY GOSH!! My keys and my baby are in there!! It is hot, too! About 79 or 80 degrees. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! I couldn't call my roadside service, for all of the info was in my purse in the van. I thought maybe someone inside would be able to help. Nope. So I called my husband who would be on his way home from work at that time. He said he could be there in 20 or 30 minutes. I told him we don't have 20 or 30 minutes...HURRY! I stood right there at the window, watching my baby pant. Then she wanted to lay down and not pant. I tapped the window each time she laid down and she would get back up and pant. I was afraid that it she stopped panting it was a bad thing. I looked around the parking lot for something to break the window with. There was nothing. I called my husband again. Almost there, he said. But he had to go by the house and pick up the extra set of keys. I cannot describe to you what it was like standing there looking at her knowing she was so hot. Although I was parked in the shade, eighty degrees outside would make for a very much hotter inside. I waited a few minutes and started looking in earnest for something to break the window with. Whilst doing so, I called him and said if you aren't here in the next two minutes I am smashing the glass (although I had not yet found anything to do the smashing with). I was pretty hysterical. He was just turning the corner into the parking lot.THANK GOD!! I got my baby and took her inside. They said she was fine. I wanted to make certain that there weren't going to be any adverse affect from the heat. Her temperature was one degree higher than it was supposed to be. They put her on an IV for hydration. When they called me to the room to come get her, I lost it. I was so frightened! I began sobbing and hugged the guy. He probably thought I was crazy. And so I was. Crazy with relief that my baby was okay. I told you it was a trauma, eh? |
