| Female Puppies in Heat This is my first time experiencing a female dog in heat. My toy yorkie (Peanut) is 7 mos old and got her first period about 4 days ago. She's just spotting here and there - nothing major. But yesterday she wasn't her bubbly self and today she still seems a little lethargic............is that part of her pms - and/or how long do they have their period? Is it a week or so like a human - or longer? Your knowledge and advise would be helpful! Thanks. mdemby |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Yes...bitches can get moody when they are in heat. In general, heats last 3 weeks. One week coming in (spotting to bleeding), second week is when they are ripe for breeding and third week going out. Mine usually just lay around the house and get "frisky" the second week. Keep all males AWAY from your girl. She is too young for an "accident".

My girls act totally off while in heat, they get grumpy and bark at everything, they seem very sad while in heat as well. they refuse to play and just lay around. I think it is very normal, just make sure she is eating and drinking normally. If she doesn't, take her to the vet. I would put panties on her to to aid in keeping males off of her. If you have a boy, I would put panties on him too! lol Last edited by LittlePaws; 06-23-2008 at 01:26 PM. | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Roxie came into heat 3 weeks ago and I was thinking she might as she became more aloof and slept more. Then I noticed swelling and then a little blood and her nipples were hard. Just yesterday she started to be real playful again. She was to be spayed 3 days after she came into heat so I had to cancel. She still is swollen, does that take awhile to go away?
