LOL! When I typed it I put extra space between the two tomatos. Just want to show that there is more than one way to pronounce many words.

the purebred
then there are splitters half yorkie half biewer

Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la pom pon was the name that Werner Biewer originally gave them. Depending on what club you are affiliated with depends on what the name is. One club has done research on 100 Biewers and it has been concluded by genetists that the Biewers are not purebred yorkies, even thought the main "ingredient" is yorkie. Also the YTCA has made it clear that the Biewers will never be accepted into AKC with the word Yorkshire attached to their name. So this club has shortened the name to Biewer Terrier. They are purebred Biewer Terriers, not purebred Yorkshire Terriers. Because of this the breeding back to standard Yorkshires needs to quit. If the Biewers were purebred Yorkies then it would be okay to breed to a yorkie. We don't breed the Yorkies back to the Manchester Terriers (or any of the other breeds that developed it), So if we want the Biewers to be purebred, then we need to do the same. They need their own name for their own separate identity.

Kathy
We can certainly agree on not allowing to breed back to the Yorkshire Terrier. This is one of the main reasons I joined the BBCI (former NBCA). Since the clubs inception they have never allowed members to breed back to the yorkshire terrier. They have always seen the Biewer as a Breed of its own, therefor having a strict breeder order ( no mixing)

Some call them splitters.. some call them F1's,But
.. mixed breeding is what I call it
I't upsetting to see that many breeders are continuing to breed back to the yorkshire terrier,I have visited far too many breeders websites who are still selling and advertising splitters.
And sadly puppyfind is overloaded with them.
I can only hope that in the future, people will spay and neuter before placing Biewers.

Jan

Default they are still cute puppies

splitters can be registered as biewers if they look like biewers..
there seems to be more people with splitters because the purebred biewers are rare and very expensive
they are available on puppyfind

In Germany perhaps, but probably not with the registries created by the biewer clubs here. And it's those groups trying to get the breed recognized by AKC.

There are many reputable breeders who advertise on puppyfind. It's a well viewed venue and an excellent way to direct someone to a breeder's website.

Splitters are yorkies, whether they are F!, F2s, whatever. Splitters are not Biewers. There are individuals that think they can buy a number of splitters and just have Biewers, no research, no thought--just produce Biewers. I am not in that school.

I breed Biewer to Biewer. When I get calls about f1,f2s I refer the people to others or to Puppyfind, because if it isn't Biewer to Biewer breeding, I don't understannd nor want to understand, I guess.

Sorry Dee I disagree..
Splitter's are nothing more than a mixed breed dog, and I'm sure the reputable Yorkshire Terrier Fancier's would agree.
They do not want to see a Yorkshire Terrier bred with anything other than a worthy example of the standard for the Yorkshire Terrier.
And if you do not advocate mixed breeding... why on earth would you direct someone to anyone that breeds for splitters?
I just don't understand.

If the resulting puppies from a splitter and a Biewer looks like a Biewer, it IS a Biewer.
In Germany the ones that look like Yorkies are registered as Yorkshire Terriers and the ones that look like Biewers are registered as Biewers. There are many great Biewers in the US that have a splitter parent. They are not considered splitters since they look like Biewers. A Biewer will produce only Biewer coloring when paired with another Biewer. When paired with a splitter 50% of the offspring should be Biewer and 50% splitter. When paired with a Yorkshire terrier that does not carry the piebald gene 100% will be splitters.

The Mars tests did come out as 100% Yorkie though for the 2 splitters that I have, but I just don't know how a dog that comes from a Biewer which does not test purebred Yorkie and a Yorkie could be 100% purebred Yorkie. To me it would make more sense to register the splitters as Biewers, but with a color fault.

I would compare them to horses. In the Paint horse world, if a horse is born without enough white, they are classified as breeding stock. They are still Paint horses, just not able to be shown. They make great companions or if confirmation is right, breeding animals.

With Appaloosa horses, the offspring without at least 2 characteristics have to be DNA tested and then identified with either a tattoo or whorls (like cowlicks) They call it CPO or Certified Pedigree Option. The animals that have gone through the CPO requirements are allowed to show with the colored Appaloosas. They are still Appaloosas even without the correct color pattern.

Here is a picture of our two Appaloosas without characteristics. They are both geldings (altered males) so there will be no offspring.

If you really want to drive yourselves nuts, click on the video twice and it will open both here and at U-tube, playing within seconds of each other. This is worse than Chinese water torture.

Both splitters were imported from Germany. I know that one of them has a standard Yorkie father. I also know this girl's grandmother on mother's side was a splitter, as she lived with me for a while.
