| New here. 6month old yorkie mom. Hi. Im angel sweetlips and I just bought a new puppy. She is a yorkie named Izabella. She is 6months old. I got her on friday the 13. She has been adjusting ok... She is so sweet and cute and funny. I love her so much. She is my first pup. Anyway I had a few questions. At six months how often should she have shots and any other medical work that requires going to the vet. To my knowlege she has had one set. It seems she has stopped drinking water. Or at least in my presence. She drank a little last night but it has been like two days since I have actually seen her drinking. What made it so bad is that I thought she wasnt peeing either, however she did pee today which is good. How can I tell if her sugar is low or if she gets hypoglycemic? If I give her karo syrup thinking that she needs it and she doesnt would it hurt her? What kinda toys should she be playing with right now? I let her sleep on a pillow that I had at the house and she tore holes in it. Is this safe? Will she eat the cotton? Should I take it from her? will she do this with a normal dog bed from the pet store? Should I buy her one of those instead? Or should I just let her sleep on the pillow? When is it too cold for her outside. Should I be worried in the mornings if it is really chilly out...around 50 degrees? What can I do to make her sleep through the night. She seems like such a light sleeper. She sleeps in my bedroom in one of those flexible crates. And she will wake up and move about throughout the night...as well as wimper and cry for me to take her out of the crate. What do I do? How do I make her stop barking and wimpering when I put her in her crate when she isnt ready to get in there? How do I keep her from crying at night when i come in my bedroom to go to sleep? She is usually quiet when Im not in there but she will start crying when i come in ....when she sees me...and So I put and towel over the part of the crate in the front so thinking maybe if she didnt see me she wouldnt cry but she still does. Please help me...IM a new mom. |

| Congratulations on Yorkie ownnership. I would make a vet appointment to get her second set of shots. It's very important that all the puppy shots be given. Take her records with you so the vet knows what she has been given. Do this asap. She should be drinking water or she will become dehydrated. There are other's here who can assist you better in this since I have never had to deal with it. The vet appt should be your first priority. That's very important then go from there. Welcome and good luck with your new furbaby. |

| you need to take her to the vet and get her checked out! She needs 3 sets of puppy shots and kennel cough booster and a rabies shot and should be on a heartworm prevention..like Heartgard. Then she should be good for a year from the last set of shots she gets. Every Vet is Different..this is just how things are done in Tennessee. She also..should have been wormed at 2,4,6,8,10 and should have started heartgard at 12wks of age.Hope this helps you out some. |

| worried mama I dont know if all of these treatments have been given to her. I feel so terrible right now cause I dont want my pup to get sick. OMg. The lady I got her from claimed that she didnt need a whole lot of shots because they would try to over medicate my pup. She said that she only needed one more set of shots and she would be good. Now I am seeing that this isnt true. How expensive will this get and will I be totally out of a ton of money for this? She is six months. What should I expect? WHat should I beware of? How can I get her to sleep through the night? Even when I take her out before bedtime she still doesnt sleep hard. She cries more when ive walked her and played with her before bed. How do I stop her crying when i leave her in the room when I walk out...or when i put her in the crate and walk out or go to bed...(she sleeps in my room) Should I be completely worried about her... Has anyone had any of these problems? |

| You sound very unprepared to care for a yorkie. First, take her to a vet, then get a book from a pet store on caring for a yorkshire terrier. That is a start. You can also do searches on this site to get answers to most of your questions. It might help if you limit each thread to a question or two, so people don't feel as overwhelmed in trying to answer your questions as you seem in trying to get answers to yours. This is a great place to get answers and I hope you find all you need here.

| to YT! You should definately take your pup to the vet for an exam and they can instruct you on how to proceed with shots. She is suppose to have them pretty regular until she is 1 yr old. There's so many helpful info and people on here... Im sure you'll find all the answers to your questions

| wow that's a lot of questions but we've all been there. At night it is importnat that she is in a crate that is next to your bed. Put her to bed when you go to bed and make sure she can see you. Dogs are pack animals and are used to sleeping with their "pack". Put her to bed when YOU go to bed.. it's ok if she falls asleep on the couch. when she cries just ignore her and when she is quite, quietly praise her and then go to bed. During the night if she wakes you to go out.. wait until there is a break in her crying (even for a split second) and then take her out... but at 6 months she should be almost sleeping through the night. Also her teeth will start coming out shortly.. you will probably see them around the house her ears might go up and down while she is teething.. that is normal. Vet bills can be pricy but when buying a dog you can expect to have to go to the vet. you can tell her blood sugar is low becuse she will be lethargic and her gums will be white. There is no harm in giving her Karo syrup if you are "wrong" about the low blood sugar. make sure to NEVER give her raw hide to chew on. it is horribel for her and can cause intestinal blockage. Nyalbone has something called "healthy edibles" and they are a good alternative but you NEED to be watching her while she eats these. do not let her chew her pillow... remove it if she does and just put her to sleep on a few towels. its ok to have lots of questions... it's scary when they are so little but you should consider buying a yorkie book! i found it very helpful! |

| Smiling... LOL. thanks. I have been putting her to bed earlier than I go so that she doesnt cry so much to get out cause she's in calm mode. Also ...I do need to get a book. I want to grab the Yorkies for dummies book. I just havent gotten to the store yet. Well..not the pet store or book store. Anyways um...I ussually have her in her crate a couple hours before I go to bed but then I started wondering when I come into the room should I take her out when I get in there to let her go to the bathroom and stuff. . Um...Oh lol...had a funny thing happen today that made me second guess my carrying case for her. I have this hot pink and black bag and theres no zipper just a snap at the top but the inside has a safety snapper inside...a clip to snap on her. Anyway she jumps out...LOL I was like oMg what the heck! if she wasnt snapped in she would have busted her little noggin. LOL. Well at the time it wasnt funny I was freaked out and like omg. EEK!!! Anyways So...now I know that my carrying case for her is like...bondage to her...LOL Anyways I think I will go take her out to pee before I go to bed. LOL its late but...I would rather her sleep securely and not sleeping with the peepee dance on her mind. LOL THank you guys sooooooooo much for allllll your help I so love this website. ITs soooo helpful. |

| Hey just wondering if you are in southern california? Having a new puppy is always a challenge. It takes time for them to adjust to your lifestyle. Much like raising a baby at first. Yorkies for dummies helped me lots. I have always had german shephards! These little furbabies are easy once you get to know their ways. I think I took Mia to the vet 3 times the first month I had her. It does not have to be expensive. There are some low cost clinics that can help with the easy things like nail clipping and shots. Save some cash for the more important visits. There are lots of helpful people here whenever you have questions. Don't be shy!! |
