| Sweet Pea Fell In The Pool, Swimming Lessons Paid Off Today Sweet Pea (5 months) was in the backyard alone, the next thing I know my dh is saying OMG, Sweet Pea is all wet. Well I don't know why but I thought maybe the sprinklers came on. We finally realized she fell in the pool. We noticed water leading from the pool and probably 1 spot she tried to get out, and the spot she has been taught to get out. All the swimming I have made my yorkies do paid off, because that could have been a terrible accident. I put them in the pool at least 3-4 times a week and teach them how to get out. Poor little thing was at the back door shaking and it was 100 degrees out side. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | WOW ...you are VERY lucky ! That would freak me out and I'm so glad she's ok...Is the pool gated off ? She is a lucky girl and an angel was watching out for her - that could have been tragic for real. I'm glad the swimming lessons paid off - but they aren't foolproof - yorkies can panic and just like people..go under even when they CAN swim. I say this in a GOOD meaning way - but if she has access ....maybe don't let her be out there alone to prevent something happening again ? or...Maybe have her wear a life jacket around the pool ? I'm a HUGE worrier over accidents in the home - many can be prevented....but yours had a good outcome and I'm glad for that. |

| Pools This post made my heart stop. Just last week I lost my little Yorkie to a pool accident. Somehow she managed to get out and my neighbor found her when they took the cover off their pool. They always propped their gate open for their convenience!!! She probably just walked right in and once under the cover there was so getting out. I have made myself sick thinking of that poor little dog struggling to get out. We have a pool, Molly could swim. We took her in alot. She was to small to be able to climb out, even from the steps or swim outs. Our only solution was to put a fence around the pool so she couldn't fall in!! We have extra wide steps and swim outs at ever corner but there is no way she would have ever been able to get out. The neighbors had one of those floating covers. Personally I think they should be banned. I know I share in the responsibility because Molly got out. That will haunt me till the day I die. But they also should not have had an open gate! I told them I better not ever see that gate propped open again, ever. The next call they may have to make is to tell someone they just found their child in their pool. Sorry this is long.....this topic just hits me so hard. Please, please be careful with these little dogs and pools. Jenni |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Jenni...Your post broke my heart. I'm so so sorry...that just has to be the worst feeling and though you are NOT to blame - I know it's so hard not to punish yourself... We CAN lose them so easily and that post grabbed me too...I haven't experienced a loss like you have - I can only imagine that it's just THAT devestating. You were strong to come on here and share what happened to you - I've seen too many posts about these accidents and it's so heartbreaking to read about - Sweet Pea WAS very lucky....but it could have easily been a tragedy. Big hugs to you and I'm so sorry for your loss. |

| Thank you. It was one of the most horrible things. She got out on Tuesday, within hours of missing her we had hundreds of flyers out. Wednesday morning the neighbor called saying they found her when they uncovered the pool. I barely remember going over there and getting her, much less driving to the vet to take her to be creamated. I was crying so hard. I just kept saying, its ok Molly, its ok. And I'm sitting here crying right now. I had thought I wasn't going to get another puppy till after vacation in Oct. But decided it would be the best medicine. And it has been!! This little imp has kept me occupied. If Molly had drowned in our pool there is no doubt I would have had it drained and filled in....there would be no way I could look out in my yard and see that pool and know that little dog died there. Thanks everyone for letting me talk about this! I really haven't done that. Jenni |

I have chills typing this ...and my heart is just clutched in my chest - I get really emotional reading these kind of things....but if it will help with your grief....please pm me OK ? VERY SORRY for your loss. And Sweet Pea - I didn't mean to hijack your story - I'm so GLAD it had a happy ending. It could have easily been a post like poor Jenni just posted. | |

| Thank goodness Sweet Pea is safe! That could have been a very tragic story. I'm glad that you've taken the time to work with her on her swimming. Jenni- I'm so sorry about your baby. I just read somewhere that the floating pool covers have killed children that jump onto them and get "swallowed into them" from all of the water rushing on top. Definitely very dangerous to have. |
