| Dew Claws I am taking my 7 month old yorkie into the vet today to have his last stubborn baby tooth pulled. I don't like the idea of having to put him under anesthesia again but I know it has to be done. I was just wondering if there is any reason I should have his dew claws removed as well? I know this is a painful procedure but I don't know if it is better to have this done now and not later? Will they cause him issue later in life? If it's not necessary that would be wonderful. I haven't discussed this with my vet and just wanted some insight. Thank you.

| It is more safe to have them off to prevent having them caught in carpet of something else . It happened to Selena , the vet checked it and had to removed it right away without aenesthasia . You don't want to see this . |

| i feel competely stupid! as i was reading this i'm like what are dew claws? then i goggled a picture of it (definations didn't help) then i realized that my puppy got it cut when he was little or we got it cut when he went under when we got him neutered. i don't know much because my dog never had it, but it seems useless and my dog's fine without it, i'm sure ur dog too will be fine without it. and its best to get it done while your puppy's already under getting its baby teeth pulled out. mickey got neutered, got his teeth pulled and i'm not sure if he got dew claws removed but if not, its best to do all at once (sorry for my blabbing onness) |
