| a little hello from canada & korea hey everyone! i'm new to this board. i was searching for travelling via air with a yorkie and came across this board. i have a little yorkie (well not so little i guess because he's 12 y/o) named mickey back in canada (with my parents of course) while i'm on vacation in korea for 4 months. though mickey was bought for me when i was 9 years old, he became my parents dog because mickey adores my parents more than myself and i live 2 hours away for school purposes. i'll be graduating next june and plan on coming to korea for a year to take a break from school (ive still got teacher's college & masters) and i'd like to buy a yorkie puppy for myself that will live with me and hopefully become my little baby. so i started doing some research to see whether i should buy a yorkie in canada or korea, either way, it'll need to travel via air. my actual question is what is an appropriate price to pay for a yorkie? i'm not interested in tea cup or anything too tiny. i would say a regular yorkie who is about 9lbs when grown up is perfect for me. i bought mickey for $400 (with out those champion paper or whatnot) and i don't really care for it as long as its not a silky terrier or a mixed dog. in korea, yorkies on average go for $500 according to the vet i spoke to. any inputs? thanks a bunch!! xoxo p.s attached are my beloved puppy mickey though he's 12 he still looks like a baby |

| yeah, i 'm trying to figure out if i got a deal on my puppy because it was bought over 10 years ago shortly before the whole small dog craze, or because i bought it from my nanny's boss' family. and in korea, my cousin was explaining to me that dogs are just cheap in general like really everything in the country. they got their white maltese for $150! talk about cheap lol |

| to YT... Mickey is gorgeous... Well pricing varies by breeder, state and registration... you are more likely to find a cheap Yorkie thats not AKC (etc.) registered... But even non-registered can be pricey... Well here in YT you can find reputable breeders.... But if cheap is what you are looking for, then maybe Korea is your best bet... Good Luck in your search... | oh wow! i didn't realized yorkies were still expensive without registration. is this because of the dog's popularity? no clue how i got mine for so cheap. i remember my personal trainner first bought herself a new LV bag and returned it to buy a yorkie instead and she paid $2 grand so it hought she bought a teacups or something cuz i hear they're uber expensive. this may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between the dogs being registered with akc, ckc, etc. and a dog that has or comes with pedigree |

| Hi there. I am from Canada...Manitoba. I just went through the process of buying a Yorkie so I have some Idea of the cost. Unregistered (puppy) sells for 800 to 1200 dollars. Registered (puppy) sells for 1500 to 2000 dollars. This may vary of course from province to province. The unregistered 800 price would be most likely from a pet owner that bred two yorkies while the 1200 unregistered price could be for a pup on the bigger side from a breeder. Hope this helps! |

2 of my friends who also own yorkies all about 10+ years have all bought them for 5-600$. i have a stupid question, what is the difference between registered and unregistered puppy? because i remember taking my puppy to a place to get him registrated and i remember i had to pay $50 for it. but then again it was so long ago and i was little i don't really remember quite i think i'm going to look into buying a puppy in korea. definately much cheaper. if you're looking for a regular yorkie i was told 350-500$ and if you want teacup 700+$ though i'm not a big fan of teacups. yorkies are already small enough, don't want anything super tiny. i feel bad for super tiny dogs in the winter

| thanks i won't be buying one until i'm done school in april 2009. i don't want to be going to school and have a puppy because i don't work during the year and i don't want not to be able to afford to keep my puppy happy (my mickey cost a lot! the annual vet fees are $300+) |

The difference depends on what is important to you really. To me as a pet owner its just a piece of paper...that hikes up the price of the pup, lol. Breeders typically have the parents registered and then the pups get registered. I bought my girl from a pet owner who has a male and female and therefore the pups are not registered cause she is not a "breeder" in that sense.....like fulltime. She just had a litter. As far as the "teacup" thing goes...there really is no such thing. Yorkies should be between 3 and 7 pounds by standard...but some get much bigger. You also can't tell as a pup how big they will really get. It's a surprise game. LOL. Good luck!
