| Do I get a 2nd Yorkie? Been a while since I've visited this forum. My Rocky is 1 1/2 years old and I just can't decide if I should get a second one. What started this is my girl friend who loves my Rocky to death has decided she wants a female Yorkie puppy. I pointed her to this website which is where I did much of my research before Rocky came home. This process of me helping her has stirred up those feelings of "should I get a playmate for Rocky". Rocky is just perfect...He is Pee Pad trained, does not bite, only goes into his loud playful bark when he wants you to play ball with him. Since I have a male I would want a female just to experience both personalities. On the other hand Rocky is my baby and he is "Perfect" ;-) I guess I'd kinda be afraid Rocky would get bent out of shape if he had to share me and our home with a newbe. I do work and I'm thinking Rocky would have someone to share his time with...But yet he seems to sleep a good portion of the day. Looking for feedback from others who had 1 Yorkie and what happened to the family unit after the 2nd Yorkie was brought home. |

| We have recently adopted a 2nd Yorkie. Our first yorkie is 6 mos old, and is *almost* housebroken. It's like having a new baby - you forget just how hard those first few days/weeks are, but they are totally worth it. I think Rocky would LOVE a playmate, especially if you are gone during the days. Be sure to spay and neuter so there are no surprises down the road |

| I have 5 but I'm a stay at home mom. I got my first a little over a year ago and he was 8 weeks old. I got a girl(Lady) the next month, she was 5 1/2 months old. Your pup is older than my Pirogue but let me tell you what happened. He thought I brought him a real live pet. He hardly paid me any attention after that. He was happy and she was happy but I was left out. Lady is still his favorite toy. Lady decided she belonged to daddy. I waited as long as I could and got another puppy(Autumn). I actually bought her for my husband but she chose me. I have since bought a little boy(Mr. Big) and a little girl(Lacijo, his half sister). Mr. Big chose my husband when we picked him up but he has since decided he's a mamas boy, and his sister has decided she's a daddys girl. So now I have a little girl and a little boy for me and daddy has 2 little girls. Pirogue is his own man. Well, SOMETIMES he allows me to hold and kiss him, sometimes. LOL did I get carried away? I forgot what I was going to say. Your pup is older than Pirogue when I bought Lady, ok. He is very well settled into your family and I think if you brought in a young female and kept a close eye on the situation for a while that things would work out very well. | Gypsy Rose already had an elderly brother Lord Lee (a lovely Lhasa Apso) when we had her at 8 wks. A year later we sadly lost Lee and she no longer had a brother and it was sad. I phoned Gypsy's breeder and had a long wait for what was meant to be a brother for Gyps but only two pups born and both were girls. We decided it was fate so along came little Gizzie..... It WAS very hard work and at first I wondered what on earth I'd done - I was also afraid that Gypsy would change in some way. What's it like now..?! The two are inseperable, Gypsy Rose didn't change at all and they love each other SO very much and have so much fun!! Ana xx

| Sweet story...When I retire I could see me having 5 as well. ;-) Yea I guess you really never know and you just got to roll with it. Yorkies have one of the best personalities and Rocky is like having a 3 year old son. ;-) I love to spoil him and he gives such love in return. |

| Well I started with amale also Chachi and decided to get him a playmate Jewels. I dont regret the decision for a minute. They keep each other company. They are so different in personality. It is nice to have one of both.

| 2nd yorkie...3rd... We got our first yorkie - Roxie - when she was 2 yrs old. she came from a bad home situtation and we were her first family that ever really loved her or took care of her. We lost our 8-yo dalmatian shortly after so, we loved the yorkie breed so much that we got her a little brother - MAX. She hated him. Hated him terribly. She became a horrible little creature. she bit and snapped at him and then started to totally regress and began peeing all over my house. She also started snipping at my 6-yr little girl. This went on for several weeks when we decided it was too much. We ended up finding Roxie a new home with no dogs and no children. (she is much happier where she is now) After a few months MAX became very "needy". He was so sad. Even though Roxie was mean to him I think he thought she was playing all the time. He really needed a playmate.....so MILO came to live with us. Milo and Max are half brothers (same father). WOW, what a difference. These two loved each other from day one. I don't know if it was becuase they are both male or becuase they were close in age (3 months apart)....but whatever it is they are inseperable. I think it was the best thing we ever did for Max and I cannot imagine one w/o the other. Would do it all over again - and probably will. We would like to get a little girl next year but have the same reservations about getting a third ??? Time will tell...

| girltime Max was 5-months old when Milo came home. Milo was 8-weeks when we got him. Milo has since become the more dominant of the two ... He's bigger than Max too. I think they got along so well becuase they were so close in age...just my opinion though..

| I got Lacey when Chloe was 6 months. It was a totally different experience because she was sooo easy compared to getting up all night with Chloe for potty. The reason? She just followed whatever Chloe did. They get along so well, it's like they are best friends, until nightime, then Lacey can get a little grumpy because she is only 3 lbs and keeps up with Chloe, who is 7 lbs, all day. I'm with them all the time and mine do not sleep as much as others do during the day, but they make up for it at night. They are down by 9 and not up again until about 7. It's great to hear people have more than 2, I'm already looking for the 3rd, my grown up kids want to know if I'm going to be one of those little ol ladies with a housefull of dogs. Hmmmmmmaybe. |

| Wow, your debate is SO similar to mine!!! That's my feelings about Sully, our "perfect" dog too, hehe! We want a 2nd yorkie for him to play with...but we're debating. I have no good advice but I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's responses to your thread. You're helping me to decide too, heehee!

| This forum is great for feedback and I enjoy reading all these posts. Pretty sure it's just a matter of time before I find the perfect little lady for Rocky. ;-) This breed is very addictive and when I'm out with Rocky he is a people magnet. I've seen some great frilly dresses for the girl yorkies and I would just love to have a little girl to get all dressed up. Those of you that have males are there any links you could provide where you get your boys cute shirts from? I know there is a page that mentions many of the retail stores but I'm more interested in the ones people on this form have used recently and are happy with. |
