| Are there any men on YT that own yorkies? Just a random question Just wanted to know why is it such a stereotype to own a small dog only if you're a girl or have a different sexual orientation than most. I feel as though you should pic the breed that fits you based on their personality and your lifestyle not their size or by stereotypes unless of course you live in apartment and own a Great Dane I love the yorkie breed and sometimes ill be walking my small dog and a woman will come up and say what a cute dog, is that yours and i'm thinking who's else would it be. I've gotten this ALOT! |

| Tell me about it. Why can't we just love the breed. I have a good size house, but I hate big, hair all over the place dogs. (stands in front of the crowd)My name is Java and I love Yorkies. (Crowd all says in unison "hi Java")

| I'm an equal opportunity harasser. Doesn't matter if they are male of female, young or old, if I see someone with a yorkie I immediately run up to play and cuddle with their pooch (w/ permission of course =). Not everyone is stuck on stereotypes though, so no worries. If I saw you together I'd assume it was your dog. Also, we just moved from the DC area to Glen Burnie. Wonder if we are close?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I hate it when people select pets so that they can reinforce people's opinion of them or want to make a statement. A pet should be chosen very carefully to fit in with ones lifestyle. Every time, I see someone with a truly "macho" type dog, I always think what are they (the owner) so insecure about? When I take Joey to Home Depot, he gets so much attention from great big "macho men." I think the more confident you are in yourself, the more you can do things to please yourself, and with age, you will learn, other's opinions shouldn't affect who you are, although it sounds like you have already learned this. Welcome to YorkieTalk!

| I hate this stereotype I feel as though if you love the breed and it fits you then get the dog that perfect for you not your "image". I have lots of people that tell me men aren't suppose to own yorkies or small fluffy dogs, the dog doesn't care if you're male or female he just wants to be love and cared for so why should we care who owns the dog as long as their caring and loving for the dog as needed. I don't own my yorkie as a reflection of my image (I may dress him as a reflection of me, some skulls here and there.lol) but because I love the breed and I have enough confidence to say "I'm a man I own a yorkie and i'm proud of it". THEY'RE WONDERFUL! |

Originally, I probably did compensate by making sure Eddie was a smart dog. I put him through a lot of obedience training and agility. If anyone ever asked "What good is he?" I'd run him through some of his tricks and shut them up. He's smarter than most big dogs I know. But then I got Jack. Four pounds. A yapper. He's now 12. Everything skeptics would say they dislike about little dogs. And I love him every bit as much as I love Eddie. I had two relatives at a recent family gathering tease me about Jack. I didn't even give them the satisfaction of trying to defend him. If they don't understand as adults, they never will. It's their issue, not mine. Besides, their big dogs are invariably fat and underexercised. I've found it much more practical to have a little dog that needs less exercise than to try to have a healthy big dog.
