| Question about grooming Chewy is all set to get his first grooming because he running around all scruffy. I have been calling groomers all over Manhattan and everyone says that I cannot stay while it is done. The only one that says I can stay and watch through the glass is PETCO. i don't know how I feel about this and no one can give me a reason other than it will distract the groomer. How do ya'll feel about this and what do you usually do when your pups are being gromed? |

| Well, I do my own. I wouldn't trust any groomer with my dogs, for safety reasons, not bad haircuts. I just don't let them out of my sight. I've heard too may bad stories and I don't want to risk injury or being stolen. By the way, a yorkie was stolen right from a groomers in my town!!! Better safe than sorry I think.

| I do it myself, or I call my friend who has a mobile grooming unit to cut her nails and trim her hair. |

| I do it myself as well, but am thinking about finding a groomer to do a 'hygenic' groom (trim his feet; pads; ears; butt; ect) that I'm too afraid to do myself. I've heard that it's pretty hard to find a groomer that will let you stay and watch, so if I can I will, but if I can't, I'll have to trust the groomer. There is not petco/petsmart around here that I could even use if I wanted to |

| I have been doing piecemeal grooming for a while, a hygiene cut here, an eye trim there but i know I need a professional to do his nails and ears. Is that something I can just do at the vet's? Also, there was a list here a while back about what to ask for at the groomer. I have done 50 searches and cannot find it. Can anyone help????? |

| Oh, forgot....ask a local breeder! They would let you stay and watch. They usually know how to do all the grooming stuff.

| Thats what we do I agree completly with the last post. Either go to your breeder, or find a good and willing one from your local Kennel Club. I never mind a pup owner coming back to learn about grooming, or just someone stopping by who wants to see it done. I try to do a dog a day at the minimun...so its not like its a problem to help out. Your (or any) breeder should easily be able to help you learn to do the nails, feet, pads, ears and etc. I have even shown a new owner how to do the anal glands. I dont do the puppy-cut, or eyes, but thats my preference. Your breeder still should be able to show you, and have whats needed on hand so you can see if thats the look you seek. Good luck |

| I just called A Cut Above. The nicest woman answered and went over everything that the grooming entails and she said that people can stay but only for the first appt. of the day and it's only $55.00!!! I think we have a winner!!! |
