| How can doing the right thing hurt so much?? i am an animal lover. No doubt about that. My grandmaw loved animals. my aunt loves animals. i love animals. on our way out of town yesterday, my aunt and i came across a kitten, it was limping pretty badly, it's tail and hind legs had horrible gashes, basically, and i lack any nicer way to put this, the cat was rotting away. the smell alone was awful. but being the kind people we are, we couldn't let it wander around suffering. so despite how dirty this poor creature was, we picked her (as we found out) up and brought her to our vet. My aunt explained that she has 8 cats, most of which are rescues from times before and that se would pay up to $800 for treatment (as money was tight for her) the vet proceded to check the cat out and then explained that the most humane thing to do was to put her down. It's sad that we had to be the ones to experience this tragedy. the owners took no responsibility and let this poor cat roam around until it died. I am so upset, but at the same time i know that cat is pain free now. The poor baby won't suffer any more. i just felt that i needed to stress how important it is to watch for stray animals. i have such a weak spot for animals, which is how we eded up with 5 dogs. 3 of which are rescue shelties.

it's a shame to think that someone could be as heartless as to keep one of our precious babies, or watch an injured animal limp around obviously in pain. It makes me so upset, i am only 20 and already upset with what the world is coming to.. and being a yorkie owner makes is so much harder. i can't show off my baby without worrying what other people will do.

| Hi Britt Bless you and your Aunt for helping that poor kitten. I am an unofficial 'rescue' person also. I always seem to run into strays that are in need of help and never turn my back on one. My mother in law tells me that God has blessed me with a "way with animals" and that animals know who to come to for help. We currently have a chocolate lab that came to us almost starved to death and with a bullet wound in his side. After months of care and tons of love, this is how he looks now. (see picture) I raised 2 orphan baby racoons on a bottle last summer, and am currently bottle feeding an orphaned baby rabbit. God will bless you for the good things you do to help animals. |

and bless you too. i always tell my boyfriend, and everyone else, if i ever receive the money -- i will open a rescue, i cannot stand knowing that animals are put to sleep merely because they are "unwanted". i just wish they had a place where they can live without being locked in a cage all day and given a time frame to be "claimed". my boyfriend adopted a chocolate lab/springer spaniel mix from the pound. she is the best dog. my boyfriend is a hunter, and his "labradinger" is the perfect mix of hunting lines. she is quite a swimmer and retriever. some of the best dogs are pound dogs. but you are a good person for saving that baby. how anyone could pass up a hurt animal is puzzling. they feel pain too. and they suffer. they just can't do anything about it like we can.

| God bless you for saving that kitten. I know it must have been really hard for you to have it put to sleep, but you did the best you can & that's all that anyone can ask for. I'm only twenty-three & I'm also sick & tired of all the cruelty & abuse that I see in this world. It makes me feel so much older than I really am. *hugs* -Amy

I'll open a shelter with you! I hate that animals get put down just because shelters are overcrowded.

| For the life of me I don't understand how people can have the soul to get an animal, allow one to come into this world, whatever! and then abandon it and leave it to suffer and fend for itself as you have described. I do not understand why people get pets to begin with only to let them roam free and run the chance of the animal ending up as the poor kitty you described. |

i know it's one of those long time debated subjects. but i do think they have souls and they do indeed go to heaven. with that said, i think they should be treated like little people. and we certainly don't start killing people when over crowding is an issue..

| I also believe that animals have souls. But more importantly I believe that God tests us daily. I've always felt that God will judge me harshly if I turn my back on a helpless animal in need. I have enough to answer for. I will not have to answer for refusing to help God's weaker creatures!! |

YT 2000 Club Member | Awe, I'm so sorry that the kitten wasn't able to be saved, but as you said, it's not suffering anymore. You and your Aunt have very kind and generous hearts, God bless you for helping this kitten to a better place. I know it's so hard to make decisions like this, but you did the right thing if the vet said that was the most humane thing to do. Loving and caring about an animal enough to let it go is one of the greatest acts of love. God bless you and your Aunt both.
