| What do you guys think... I am thinking about trying to start a student chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund at my law school next year. Basically the student chapters do the following things: (1) Assist in ALDF Zero Tolerance Cruelty Campaign: Essentially when animal cruelty cases come up in their jurisdictions students are in charge of making available the tools to win convictions and appropriate sentences for those found guilty of mistreating animals. They conduct legal research, draft friend-of-the-court briefs, locate expert witnesses, make judges and prosecutors aware of similar cases in other jurisdictions. (2) Participate in public awareness & lobbying campaigns by doing research for attorneys working on animal law cases and educating their colleagues about the need for animal law reform. Law schools are responding to their efforts by offering animal law classes and seminars. (3) Investigate claims of animal cruelty and bring attention to them I think this is a wortwhile cause and am ready to do it, but I intend and do work in the corporate law field. My concern is coming off like a wackey left wing extremist activist type within my field, which is very frowned upon. Do you fellow YTers think this would be a problem? I know it sounds selfish, and like I lack dedication, but hey I need to keep a roof over Bruce and my heads. |
