I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The AKC is the oldest registry in the United States, and also the only one that does inspections. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America is the parent club of the AKC and informs them of the standard. The dog's shows you see on television are all connected with AKC. The CKC could be the legitimate Canadian Kennel Club that is similar the the AKC or it could be the Continental Kennel Club that is linked directly to puppy mills and will pretty much accept any dog. When your dog is registered with the AKC it is thought to be purebred, but the papers are no better than the breeder. So it's just the first step to take in finding a quality breeder. If you dog is eligible to be registered, I urge you to do this because I believe in supporting the AKC, if your dog is not eligible to be registered, there is nothing you can do to make him eligible.
