| Longing for Zzzs I don't know what to do anymore! Lucky is two years old and we have had her for a few months now. She refuses to sleep through the night. If we go to bed at around 11:00, she is up at 12:30 and again anytime from 3:00 to 6:00. She sleeps in a bed next to ours. Our bed is too high for her to jump up on, so she runs back and forth to my side and my husband's side of the bed and puts her paws up and tries to get our attention. She does not stop until one of us takes her outside, after which time she immediately goes back to bed. I've tried waiting it out (over 20 minutes) to see if she'll go back to bed, but she won't unless we take her out. The weird thing is that sometimes she barely even goes so I don't know why she keeps waking up or why she stays awake! I really don't enjoy having to get up several times a night to take her outside, but we live in a condo so a doggie door or anything like that is not an option. What should I do? |

| OH that is too bad. Do you take her out right before you go to bed and when you first wake up in the morning. Thats what we do with our dogs. If so maybe you should also train her on peepads so she could use those at night.

| Have you tried putting pee pads near her? So that way if she needs to go, she can just go on there and go back to sleep without disturbing you. Maybe you should start having her bed in another room with her pee pads, so she knows she can't rely on you past bed time.

| In response, we do take her out right before we go to bed and first thing in the morning. She is not pee pad trained, although it might not be a bad idea. Is it too late to pee pad train her at two years old after she has become accustomed to going only outside? |

| I have two yorkies, I found out I am unable to get a good night's sleep if they are my bedroom. They have kennels in the den and the only time I close their kennel doors is when it is night night time, about 8-9pm. I get them up at 7:30am, they immediately go outside to potty, then they have their breakfast. Chloe is 7 lbs and Lacey is 3lbs, they are one year old and do not soil their bed or cry at night. In fact, when I say it is night night time, Lacey goes right to her bed, where she has a blanket and her favorite toy. Chloe, however, would rather stay up longer, so I take her to bed. I recently had a party, so I put their kennels in the garage. Everyone wanted to pet them, hold them, etc., they were the hit of the party. However, when it was night night time, they went on a search for their beds, it was evident to everyone they were tired and wanted all to go home, it was the cutest moment. They came up to me with this, what's going on look, settled in my lap and went to sleep. I certainly respect anyone who has their baby sleep with them or in the same room but any sound, like snoring or a light kept on would disturb them and I too would have to take them outside. It just doesn't work for me and this does. |

| Tucker was up every 3 hours and then I brought him to bed with me. He sleeps through the night now. I get up at least 2 times to use the bathroom, and he doesn't even open his eyes anymore. Being up on the bed seems to help him sleep all night.

| Ours always slept in the bed and slept all night. The only thing was that when they are babies they can't sleep as late of a morning as they do as adults. Perhaps your baby gets cold and wakes up? Just a thought. I'd definitely try letting her sleep in bed. Does your little girl always have to go as often even in the daytime? If so, perhaps you need to have her checked by the vet. |

| Any chance she might have a bladder infection or something like that- maybe there is a medical condition that causes her to feel like she needs to go potty every couple of hours. Have you discussed this with your vet? If you are sure there isn't a medical problem, then maybe it is just that she is aware of your presence in the middle of the night and therefore wants your attention every few hours and she is getting this by having you take her out. |
