This thread is amazing. Now I really can see why there are so many breed banning laws out there. It's from overreaction and those that really don't know what they are talking about.
This dog, just like some children, needs to be taught that aggressive behavior of any kind is unacceptable. She has just had the chance to take her fight to the level of death...most likely unintentional, who here knows the size of the Yorkies she fought?!? Anyone? ANYONE?
TRUST ME, I am NOT saying that she isn't a danger at this point to other dogs. But what I am saying is that b.s of people lining up chanting "euthanasia, euthanasia" is a freakin' joke!

I hope the original poster posts up again and can give us more of her story. Who here trains and competes with dogs? I am by no means God when it comes to training, but I have been at it for many years and on a professional level and I am here to tell you that without evaluating this dog, it is UNLIKELY that she cannot be taught to be in a mulitple dog household and thrive in such. Is it possible that she can't? Sure, there just haven't been many, I can count 5 in the last....16 years that I've had to recommend either euthanasia or a experienced handler with no other dogs or cats. But the dogs were taught control through their obedience to be consistent and IGNORE other animals. Only one was actually euthanized out of those 5.

I would love to meet this individual and offer her my services for free if she lives up in the Northern Illinois area so she can keep her bitch and not have to worry about her with the other dogs.

For anyone to consider putting down this Yorkie is ridiculous. I don't think the OP could say with certainty that this one dog killed 3 on her own. If these killings happened in a pack environment, surely at least one other joined in at some time. Even if one is the main aggressor, she could easily be re-homed. She had never shown human aggression so the only consideration is to not put her with other dogs. No way could a Yorkie be considered a danger to the community. They are easily contained and, if out on a leash, can be easily controlled. I think euthanasia might be considered in a dog if containment and control was a problem but I can't imagine this being the case for a Yorkie. Every owner of multiple dogs should be mindful of the possibility of pack aggression. When you have more than one it is essential to firmly establish (and re-enforce when necessary) your role as absolute pack leader.

Obviously the OP has gotten enough opinions at this point so I won't add mine. I was wondering too about whether this bitch is spayed or being used for breeding? No dog that shows aggression like that should be bred.

I am very grateful to see others that would be willing to work with dogs first, before such drastic measures are taken. I have to share a bit about my Yorkie. I had some aggression issues with her (although admittedly on a much smaller scale) I got her prompt help from a trainer and while we were working with her (and even now) I am VERY careful about what situations I put her in(yes- ME- what I put her in- she is MY responsibility) For those that think dogs cannot be rehabilitated, I beg to differ. I have a lot of people that knew the "old" Lexie and are in TOTAL shock how much better she is now. At my sons baseball games, people can actually hold her on their laps and she is so much better. I ,of course ,still am very vigilent because with her it was a fear issue. BUT they can be helped. It was a TON of work and patience on my part, but she is my baby and putting her down WILL NEVER be an option unless she has a terminal condition and is suffering horribly. When you bring a pet home, you are making a committment. That committment isn't as long as things are going great or going your way- it is ALWAYS. That means doing everything you can to help them, physically or mentally. That was great of YorkieK9trainer to offer to help. Thank you for making the world a brighter place!!

I would like to apologize for questioning why the original poster has not returned to this thread. I notice that the lady is a donating member of this site, so that means she is a "real" person. There are times when out of pain you post something like this on a BB because you just need to reach out. I would like to see all of our answers to her show compassion for what must be a very difficult time/ decision.

Hopefully she IS reading this.
It's obvious everyone feels very bad hearing about 3 yorkies killed - but in all honesty... it's the HUMAN who is responsible and in charge. She should have taken steps that it didn't happen again after the 1st dog was killed - which means making a hard decision -

to think this is a breeder and a groomer is kind of scary - I have to wonder if she still has this dog because she is breeding her ??? I may be way off base & maybe she isn't breeding this dog ....but I really think the original poster needs to re-think her priorities

and to the person who posted this - I really hope you do the right thing by your dogs. ALL of them.... and good luck.

ps - I think everyone has been as honest as they can be without attacking her in their responses. I've seen some other 'dog' boards and they'd have been VICIOUS if this was posted there.

I do understand what you are saying as well, but sometimes the written word comes off a bit harsher than we mean when we type it. Mind you now,I am by no means talking about ALL of the responses posted here, I was just doing a little light reviewing of ALLLLLLLL these pages this morning and thought my post was necesary. Carry on.

You're VERY right. I agree. It IS hard to say something direct sometimes without sounding harsh...but in some cases...being direct and to the point (without being outright rude or mean) can be better than tippytoeing around ....

you did a good post .....so...Carry on

The dog should definitely be rehomed to a home that doesn't have any dogs or other small animals.

It's a shame that 3 lives had to be lost...sounds like the dog is a serial killer.

Dogs don't have the same mentality as humans do. While some dogs can be "rehabilitated", I feel that at this point it can't.

Humans that are serial killers are, in the state of Texas, are put to death. While I do not feel that this dog should be PTS, it should definitely be removed from it's current situation for it's own safety as well as the others in the household.

I dont see how yall can sit here and take away from the owners responsibilities as an owner im sorry!!!!

Also i think yorkierose (sorry if i messed up the name) stated that if a dog relapses then it wont change but guess what this dog was never given that chance to not relapse!!! It was never helped or even tried to be helped, the owner kept putting this dog in the same situation over and over again without getting it help. do you see where im coming from with this???? This dog was never given the help or even the chance to change , the owner kept bringing one new dog in after another each time they were killed.

so how is this not the owners fault??? how??? are yall not seeing something??

the same actions should be taken for a big dog. I know how much i love my babies and if one of them killed another (out of my babies) then of course i would be furious and sad but i would see this dog needed help and seeing how much i love the dog and knowing that the first mistake was made and i couldnt bring the other baby back i would be sure to help the dog that did it.

im sorry maybe i should quit posting because this is becoming a heated subject for me!
I did not want to post again but you are reading my post all wrong and even though I post again to explain it, it probably won't change your mind so I really don't know why I am about to waste my time. But....

I never said the owner was not at fault, in fact I think there should be no less than a $5000 fine on the record so we know how many times these people have allowed this to happen and get away with it. In some cases the owner should go to jail. What I did say was that only blaming the owner is not fixing the problem. The dog is a killer. I also said the owner was irresponsible and I think it best you read all posts.

I agree, if you wanted help you should have at least commented back on what you decided to do. If the OP had posted throughout the thread she could have helped to keep the negative comments to a min.

After going back and reading some of the posts from the OP I learned that she has been breeding for 9 years and had 8 yorkies and some other breed I believe. The first yorkie that was killed, she did not know what happened, she was not there and figured the pack killed her. I think she had a heart attack right around that time. Also, prior to the 1st yorkie being killed she lost a 13 year old yorkie to cancer. I think she is a loving yorkie owner but has just made some bad decisions regarding letting her dogs run in a pack. I have been raising yorkies for 12 years and I can tell you they will not always all get along. I have several over the years that I had to separate and keep separated because of fighting. These were very sweet dogs and they did wonderful in their new environment. The last time she was online was yesterday morning so I am sure she is reading all the advise. Hopefully she understands that we all pray for her and her babies and we hope she gets the situation under control before something else happens.

Sorry for the confusion, I have a place in both locations. Glendale, Arizona...which is where I am currently typing to you from, my plane leaves at 4:30p today from Sky Harbor BACK to Northern Chicago (Zion) to be exact, but I train all over from the south side of Chicago all the way up to the border when in Illinois. Send me an e-mail or PM and we can chat about your pups!
