| Question about pedigree????? Okay, so I FINALLY registered Madeleine with the AKC. I got her Pedigree today but I'm a tad confused how to read it From what it looks like to me Madeleine's father is also her maternal grandfather Am I stupid that I can't decipher this thing?? Ugh, I'm really upset about this. I don't want my little girl to be inbred I've learned so much from YT since I got Madeleine and if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have purchased from this breeder. What type of breeder breeds a male offspring with it's mother????????? No matter what I love my girl more than anything, but this does upset me.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm no breeder, and maybe this thread will be moved to the breeding section, but I believe this is rather common, but you do have to know what your doing. From my little knowledge of this, it's brothers and sisters that shouldn't be bred and this is where you get trouble. So don't worry about you little girl, I'm sure she will be just fine.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yes, inline breeding is done sometimes, and if you have concerns about your girls pedigree, I would talk to the breeder. They should be willing to explain the pedigree to you.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Generally I have read the prefered in line breedings are between say...uncle and neice....aunt and nephew. It's hard to describe how to read a pedigree that's written out...I'll try... You have Madeline's name....behind her would be two names..the sire and dam's (mom and dad). From the sire (dad) will be two more names...the sire and dam (mom) of that dog. Same thing on the dam's side...those dogs would be Madeline's grandparents. Btw, sometimes registered names are very very close...you can double check to make sure it's the same name. Clear as mud??? LOL.

| Okay, so I don't know about breeding yorkies...but...we have Nubian goats, and you in-breed that way, 5 generations, and you can then register them as purebred Nubians again. My husband handles all this, so I do not remember exactly how you do it, but I do know brother+sister is a big no-no, but I do know that mother+son is one way to do it. |

I guess I probably should have posted this in the breeder's section.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You got me curious, so I looked at Joey's pedigree, and it looks like his grandfather is also is great grandfather, aptly named "Master of the Game" cause that dog sure got around!
