I am doing a persuasive speech in college on why you shouldn't buy a dog from a pet shop....if you have any comments, suggestions or any type of research or personal accounts. Please all will be welcomed. Plus I will post my speech for all to read as soon as i am gathered info. Thanks in advance.

| Bless your heart! We need more young people just like you. I would suggest looking at a forum I belong to called millbusters.com. (please see link below in my signature). There is a wealth of information and you might get some ideas that you can use. Try to ignore the spam....they can't seem to keep the sickos off. I am Ziggysmom on there. Please keep us posted and I know your speech will be WONDERFUL.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow, this is so cool, and very topical too. Please also suggest that they don't purchase their pets on-line either. It's so easy to post a couple of cute puppy pictures and represent yourself as a breeder, but most are puppy brokers getting their animals from puppy mills. It's ok for a breeder to have a web site, but ethical breeders will not sell over the Internet and they will want to meet the buyer in order to ensure that the people can make the commitment a pet takes. | Wow Wow I didn't expect to see so many responses so soon. Thanks ladies.....prepare for a great speech This is my last speech for this class and it took me so long to think of topic to persuade on and then I was going to sleep or trying too the other night and I was stressing a little about finals and then I was thinking about the GE and bam it kinda hit me.....hehe...so even if my classmates think I am the crazy dog lady...at least I know they will be forced to listen.

| Besides the emotional issue you also might bring up (for non dog lovers) that it is their taxes that are paying for animal control and local government shelters for all the dogs (pets) that are thrown away. The greeders are making the profit and the public is cleaning up after them.

| I had a friend who worked at Pet Land (before we knew what puppy mills were) the would get their dogs every Wednesday. I happened to be at the mall one Wednesday, I saw a van full of puppies (just a crappy older van I doubt there was air conditioning it was a hot summer day) so the kennel manager would go out to the van and pick the puppies they wanted to sell, a lot of them looked very unhealthy the one that disturbed me the most was weimerainer (sp? sorry) with a very infected docked tail. Also a bernise mountian dog was picked out who infected half the kennel and the staff with ring worm..a very small hyperglycemic chihuahua died over night because no one was there to know anything was wrong...also the grates in all the cages were rather large so the smaller dogs couldnt even walk without their little feet falling through. Hope this helps....good luck!
